How do you import an iTunes library/playlists from a NAS that doesn't actually have iTunes on it?

I run iTunes from a desktop that manages my library/playlist files, and my media is all stored on a Synology NAS (where Plex Server is installed). In the past I’ve exported m3u’s for other media libraries, but want to try using Plex now that I have Plex Pass. I know Plex works with iTunes libraries, but the info on the documentation is very vague. Playlists are very important to me.

How can I make sure that Plex imports my iTunes playlists in this scenario? Can I just copy my iTunes library XML file to a specific location for it to pick up?
