Hi I’m new to Plex but had Plex with a lifetime pass for ages but never got around to sussing out how it works.
I’m trying to add music files to a library which are stored on an external hard drive.
When I try to add the location of my hard drive it scans but doesn’t actually find anything.
What do I need to type into the “ADD FOLDER” box when I add the location of my files please? My files are located in Drive L and the folder is called Wig’s Music. What is the correct format for entering this please? Will I need to delete google:/ first and type in the rest or start with it completely blank? Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA
If this appears for you, you are currently looking at your Plex Cloud server. This will go away soon, so I don’t recommend you spending any more time on it.
Either you haven’t installed the Plex server software onto your local computer, yet.
Or you have difficulties accessing the local software.
What happens if you click on this link? http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
OttoKerner if I click the link I get “This site cannot be reached” I thought I had installed the Plex server software but appears not so will do that now and try again. I was under the impression that I had to add libraries via the Plex web page??
Good.
Does it now show you a server selector in the left/upper area?
Which should give you the option to switch between your cloud server and your local server.
Yes it does. I’ve jumped the gun a bit and managed to find my hard drive and added a library which now seems to be populating okay. Thanks for your help , I’ll see how it goes and give you a shout if I need more help if that’s okay? Thanks again…you’re a star!
Please do!
You might want to rename your cloud server (or even erase it) so you don’t confuse it easily with your local one.
To answer your question from above:
The web app can be loaded from plex.tv as well: https://app.plex.tv/desktop
Which makes it appear as if you are doing it on the plex website. But that is a misconception. Once the web app is loaded into your web browser, it communicates directly with your server.
