Unable to add library, or anything

I guess I am too stupid to figure this out. I am just trying to add my media. I have an external hard drive with media separated into shows and movies. I have watched youtube videos, looked at all sorts of articles. Everywhere says just hit the plus sign.

I dont have one. I cant find a single way to actual tell the software where to look for media. It literally wont do anything. Trying to use the app on windows 10. There is no plus sign. No media. No nothing. No way to add it.

How do I add a library on Plex if I dont have the + sign? Yes I am logged in.

This article describes the process:

Once you’re in Settings, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list on the left and select Libraries. From within there, you can add a new library. The article describes this.

Alternatively, you can add a library from the home screen by clicking the ‘+’ next to your server name in the side panel. You’ll only be able to see the ‘+’ in the side panel if you click the “MORE” link first:

Then, hover your mouse over your server name name and the ‘+’ be shown.

That is the problem, my software doesnt have any of those options. There is no Libraries option in the settings menu, not only that, the options dont scroll down, they scroll left right. And as I stated, there is no + sign next to a server, there is no server, no ‘more’ nothing. There is none of that.

The software that I downloaded from plex just a week ago, seems completely different from what everyone else on the internet has. Which is fine, if I could figure out how to make it work.

Plex is a client/server application. Did you install the server component? If so, I’d recommend performing the initial configuration and addition of libraries from its web interface. The document I linked assumes this is the case.

It may be helpful to see a screenshot of what you’re seeing when you’re attempting to configure Plex and add libraries.

I downloaded the app for windows 10. I installed the app on my computer. The files are on my external hard drive. All of this is right here. How do I tell the software where to look for the files?

What is the point of installing the software if I have to go online to use it? That completely defeats the purpose of an offline media server.

All I want to do is have a piece of software that organizes my media collection without needing the internet at all, because I frequently dont have it. All my files are local on a physical hard drive right next to the computer.

What is the point of downloading this application if it cannot do anything?

That isn’t the server. Plex is a Server+Client/player system.

The server manages your files on your computer and sends the stream to however many Plex clients/players that you have. You can get the server on our downloads page https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/

Also we no longer update the Windows store app. Suggest using the Plex for Windows app https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app
