What resources were wasted? You should not make assumptions.
Keep in mind people have different requests and there are many people who wanted this functionality and seem to like it a lot so it’s definitely not “garbage”. I myself have not tried it and probably won’t any time soon. I too would prefer shared playlists over many other features as well as many of you.
Plex has been on a roll adding some of the older requested features lately so I have high hopes on this feature. I’m much more optimistic about this now then say a year or 6 months ago based on what I’m seeing. But that’s just me.
+1 to sharing Playlists with other Users/Friends @elan
@cayars; adding features is nice, but I don’t think they are the right features to be working on. There are so many bugs/issues out there, and adding features like VR really is a waste.
VR makes up a VERY small percent of users (and even less since it doesn’t support the largest VR platform currently (PSVR) last I heard), and if the team used on VR were to have worked on 4-year old requests such as this one the masses would have been more satisfied. I myself have a daydream, and was less than wow’ed by the VR app.
A bunch of people have made the same comment on VR. It’s a different dev team brought in specific for it. If VR didn’t exist then neither would the devs so it’s a moot point and not valid.
I know that was only an example and I do get what you are saying as a whole. I agree in some cases just not with this specific VR example.
I guess I’ll just add one more user who has paid the subscription since day one who has decided to drop the system completely because they are making a decision to ignore this feature request which is probably very simple to program in relation to all the magical stuff they have done. Live TV! now VR! wow…but i can’t share a simply playlist with mom. what gives?
I have already requested this before…but now after well over 2 years it still doesn’t happen. I would LOVE to see any one of the PLEX admins/creators/programmers, etc… explain at all the reason they have basically crapped on this feature that I would bet easily 90% if not more PAID USERS want!!! Seriously…why won’t any of you answer this question? We know you read the forums. We know if you don’t that someone that does knows you personally and has told you… If you are not going to add it then simply put this to rest and say you have no desire to add this BASIC feature for a server owner!!!
But hey, why expect this to ever appear when they can add features (I don’t care if they are totally separate programmers) that a whopping 3-5% of PAID users care at all about or will ever use. And of course, we pay for this same team to NOT allow the other TOP (if not I would eat my plex server) requested feature from server owners…ALLOW US TO MESSAGE OUR USERS!!! And I don’t mean JUST when we are shutting down their viewing of a show/movie…
Anyway…once again…add my +10000 for sharing a play list. I mean, I hate to think I spent HOURS making a FULL play list of every Star Trek episode and movie in correct star date viewing order so that I am the only one that can enjoy it…
Not sure if this was said already, but if you can install plugins on your Plex Media Server, you can share playlists by installing the WebTools plugin. It’s not as elegant as a native solution and it takes a few steps, but it works perfectly.
I would like this feature for parties or weekend trips where i could set say a movie marathon up ahead of time and then when one of my friends log in they don’t have to search for anything.
I’d like to throw down in this one also. Playlists are real handy for series of movies. For instance, I have a Marvel playlist in chronological order. A James Bond playlist in chronological order. A Fast & the Furious (minus the third one, of course), same thing, in order. My parents have an account on my Plex, so I try to make it easier on them. They’re, you know…old.
My feelings are in line with all others who posted before , and I really do question the decision process for the product managers in neglecting an active and vocal user base asking for a very lightweight feature, especially if it is limited to users that can access a shared library (but not hard even beyond that). My decision to add a post that adds nothing materially to the discussion is due to the hope that the crude and just partly useful measure of ‘volume of replies’ may be the method by which the folks at Plex may use in their process.
Better collection management and display, client app updates, and codec/playback support would have cost a fraction of the VR “watch together” feature, and would easily have gone much further in providing what users want.
Add my name to this list as well, so disappointed to not be able to share my playlists which do have uses ChefGS above Star Trek episodes in the correct stardate order, Star Wars in the chronological order, same applies to the Avengers Universe. This really would be a small feature to add and have no idea why I can’t share.
Throwing in my vote as well. It seems strange that I can share the Collections, but the video Playlists that contain items in those collections cannot be shared.
+1 for this as well… Making a “Marvel Universe in Chronological Order” playlist… I’d hate to have to make it more than once… Using @beuh_dave suggestion for Webtools for now, but it shouldn’t be a 3rd party option…
Agreed. Take the VR, Live TV, Cloud Streaming, and Channel Devs and make them write code to share playlists. No one cares about any of this crap. Just make a list of the bugs on the forum and start banging them out. You’d have much happier users and a much more useful product. THEN add features.
I mean…come on, you have to have taken Comp Sci 101. You don’t add more code to buggy code. It’s just a math equation.
