I’ve been sharing my server with my brother for a while now. I made him a recommend playlist. Recently I got Plex Pass so I can create him a user account. I’ve been adding movies to it for a week or so and he just told me he doesn’t see his playlist anymore. That’s how I ended up here. Can I also request this feature? What’s the point of PP if he has to use my user account? I don’t use the other features of PP, btw.
+1, I’d use this to recommend TV shows and movies to those that I share my server with. I’m constantly recommending stuff to these individuals and they always mention that they need to start keeping their own list of “must watch” stuff. This would be a much easier way to communicate recommendations.
+1 Instead you spend time on VR streaming development with a microscopic user base and no user request. Poor judgement if you ask me.
+1 on adding this feature!
I totally agree with you.
Why Plex devs don’t ask the community what are the best features they really want and work on them before developing “useless” things

I create playlists and would like to share with other users internal to my server and with friends externally.
This simple feature NOT being implemented but requested for the last five years… That should wake up even the biggest Plex supporters. I have moved to emby almost completely since Plex does not even care for us at all. This thread shows it very obviously.
I would love if readers of my blog could listen to chapters of my new book which are in mp3 files arranged in PLEX playlists via a URL link. Through this link I would like the user to only listen to the specific playlist content not have access to anything else.
4 years later and this has still not been implemented? It would be amazing to simply get a URL you could share, the way Spotify or Apple Music does.
+1 - would really like this feature.
If you only have a few users to share playlists with, the Webtools method works pretty well. However, it can be pretty tedious if you have a lot of users and/or a lot of playlists. If that’s the case, you can share specified playlists with users if you can run some python code. You can schedule this script to run ever so often with task scheduler (windows). The script requires a few components to run: Python, Tautulli, PlexAPI and the playlist script.
- Install python
- Add c:/python27 and c:/python/Scripts to your Windows PATH so that the executable files can be executed from any directory (i.e. python, pip)
- Install Tautulli web monitoring tool for plex
- Install PlexAPI (e.g. pip install plexapi)
- Download playlist_manager.py from Github.
- Edit playlist_manager.py and add in your Plex Server URL, token, Tautulli URL and Tautulli API Key. You can get the Plex Token at Tautulli > Settings > Plex Media Server > Plex TV Authentication. You can get the Tautulli API key at Tautulli > Settings > Web Interface > API Key.
- Run a command similar to this to start sharing your playlists (e.g. python playlist_manager.py --action share --allUsers --playlists “yourplaylistname1” “yourplaylistname2”).
- If you ever get any python module errors, install the missing module with the PIP command (e.g. PIP Install Requests)
I didn’t list every single step on how to install python or the various programs, but that should give you an idea of how it can be done.

Also can’t believe this is not a feature, yet.
+1 I would love to see this feature to I keep telling my girlfriend to look at the playlist I made for her all she gets there’s nothing here.

I understand that this feature may not be useful to a majority, but it would be incredibly cool for the folks interested in this. I’d love to set up kid-friendly movie playlists for the family-focused users on my server, creating bumpin’ playlists that can be blasted at parties, and set-it-and-forget it playlists for co-workers.
Fingers crossed!
+1 from me.
I’ve got a lot of anime in my media - saying that: the usually deliver a LOT of “fillers” (episodes that don’t have much to do with the actual series) - now i invested all the time to create playlists - just to discover my friend can’t see them - just as well as my “viewing” user. (I split accounts for administration and actual watching…)
Thx a lot !
+1 Would love to see this feature.
+5, for me and my other Plex power-user friends. This is a topic of regular discussion between us. Playlists are already bound to servers, so the only technical hurdle I can see to this problem is permissions for users to access individual libraries, but SURELY this problem can be solved. We would all LOVE to be able to share playlists between each other. Alternative track orders for certain soundtracks, curated selections from large collections of music to fit certain moods, personal favorites, you name it. In our opinions, this feature would be one of the best to grace Plex since we’ve started using it, if it were added.
Stunned this isn’t a feature… +1
Add me to this feature request. I just put together an Ultimate 25 days of Christmas movie list that I wanted to share… no luck! I know what I want for Christmas now though
