How is default poster art image determined?

Now that I view my Plex library on a 120" home theatre screen, I’m preferring more authentic poster art containing names of actors.

From the poster selection provided by most sources, there almost always appears to be an option containing names of actors. Is there a unique identifier/tag for each poster type?

Is there any configuration that determines which poster type Plex selects as the default image from the multiple options each source has? (I suspect it’s not coincidence that default posters do not contain actor or studio names).

Plex uses the posters which have been rated highest by the community (depending on the library language this can be a different motif).
The “clean” posters are usually rated higher, because they look better when shown as a “poster wall” where they are relatively small.
There is no setting in Plex for a user to prefer different poster versions.

The best you can do is to obtain the poster versions you’re preferring as graphics files and storing them beside your video files: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220677-local-media-assets-movies/
You can then instruct Plex to use these preferably.
