How does PLEX find the choices of poster art that are presented to me without having to add the url? If I find a great poster, is it possible to upload the link to share it with other users within the PLEX platform? It seems that somehow this is being done because some movies have a lot of choices.
I’ve had to delete and reinstall my libraries a couple times after upgrades. This is a pain. I have a few titles that do not have posters by default within PLEX. So I go find them and upload them. But this takes time. I know that I can save the poster images locally etc, or go find the links for them, but that’s not what I am asking here. For most titles, there are already posters that I can choose. More popular titles have more poster choices.
So Plex uses whats called “Agents” and these agents provide this data to plex and depending on how your setup is configured you might be using different agents. so this is my movie library:
These agents are online data bases which some might have more info than others depending on what your library contains and you can add additional agents for things like anime.
If you edit a library and go to advanced settings you can select your “Agent”
So if you use an agent like TMDB or IMDB it i sucking data from the internet and if you wanted to contribute your own “Fan Art” you would provide it to IMDB or TMDB so Plex would pick it up.
You can also just specify your own media for any item by editing it and uploading your own but that would only be stored locally for your own viewing pleasure.
