Plex Agent Logic for Posters

I am actually wondering what the logic is when choosing a poster art during scans? I notice on occasion it grabs a bad image, that is listed in the poster list, so I was wondering if when users correct it, we could also help and correct it for everyone.

My best guess is its grabbing a flagged image from tmdb.org, or the most popular or something, which could be corrected from tmdb.org side by end users?

This is what I mean by this:
image

I always thought images like those were some random screen-grab from a scene in the show/movie, in case Plex can’t grab any metadata from TMDB/TVDB. If there is no poster, it’d rather grab a random image from the show than show a blank image.

Plex has been really good at defaulting to metadata posters, not the screengrab.

Your media file contains an embedded poster, that’s what you’re seeing there.

To prevent this from happening, you can edit the library and in the Advanced section disable these two options:

  • Use local assets
  • Prefer local metadata
