How many maximum user account you can create on plex media server if i go premium.

Having just come across this thread I feel it is my duty to warn seanreit

Plus it’s extremely difficult to get the video file downloaded through plex, you’d essentially have to use a screen recorder to get my stuff.

You are very mistaken, downloading from a Plex server is ridiculously easy, and not logged anywhere that I can find - not in PlexPy and not even in the server logs, doesn’t show up in the Plex activity web interface and from what I can tell - provides access to all content on the server, whether it has been included in the share or not. I don’t know if it is by design or a glaring bug (I suspect it’s a massive bug).

EDIT: No it is just access to the shares you have been entitled to - but you can still very easily download the raw files (with zero transcoding) with no obvious notice of that activity happening being provided to the server owner.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread. Just wanted confirmation if the number of users is still 100 or has it been reduced to 15 in total now?

I might of misunderstood the following statement:

“You may have up to 15 members total in your Home (any combination of Managed Users or regular Plex Accounts, which includes your admin/owner account).”

Thanks

Hey,
15 for Managed Users
https://support.plex.tv/articles/203815766-what-is-plex-home/

I think it is still up to 100
https://support.plex.tv/articles/204226753-friends/

You can share with up to 100 others ( having a Plex Pass or not will not change that number)

If you have a Plex Pass you can add up to 14 to your Plex Home

I see most people are asking about shared users (up to 100). I share with a couple of friends but to my mind it would apear if you are getting to 100 shares that is more typical of sharing to other people (potentially) selling services. I have a large family and I want to create more than 15 managed accounts, but the only way I can see to do this is to get my children and elderly parents to create their own accounts just to watch our own shows from my server. Is there are way to increase the number of Managed user number to maybe 30?

Our “Plex Home” feature is intended for people that actually, physically live with you. For family members that don’t actually live with you, they can simply create a free account and then you share with them outside of your Plex Home (https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/server-sharing/). It isn’t possible to increase the size of your Plex Home, sorry.

ChrisC, so you are saying having a database with 100 names and emails versus a database with 200 would affect your system detrimentally? What are you running this on a raspberry pi? I have a server available which can handle a database with a couple hundred million entries no problem. Can I send this to you for free and then you enable more than 100 friends so we can use plex in the school / learning environment? ;D

So how do they access your server through plex home, by logging into your account. You could create a account for them and set up the share there is absolutely no difference at all

I know i’m bumping an old topic here, but any chance we can add more than 100 users - if not for all of Plex, perhaps for just the music component? I’m a DJ/Producer and share my mixes and music library with other close-knit friends in the community (about 30 of us) who host a local radio station. I’m going to max out my Plex user invites by the time I’ve got my regular users - and then community radio users also.

Cheers,

If its family and they are going to access the same librarary ie your show or collections of unique files. Why not create a generic account and let them use it. Will there be limitation on simultaneous login As server owner can login in multiple devices say pc,mobile ,tv, etc.

for those who need more than 100 User’s the above can work. You can delete the account once you want to stop the trail.

I find the employee reasoning behind the limit here quite unreasonable, especially since no details were given as to what their servers exactly are being taxed with. The local PMS you run handles the streaming, transcoding and library management so what exactly is causing strain on their backend? I’m actually quite interested in this for privacy’s sake because I’d like to know what data is going out to Plex vs coming from my media server. A detailed comment on this would be nice…

Hi Chris

A quick query is that shared and home combined 15/100

Members of a Plex Home are counted as part of the total number of shares. Basically: you can share with a max of 100 people and up to 14 of those can be added to a Plex Home (the admin/owner counts as one of the “15”).

which means 85+15 home users out of which 85 will have to buy app or be plex pass users

Almost all of our apps are free for all users. Only our mobile apps need to be activated/unlocked to remove playback limitations. But you’re correct that sharing with 100 people doesn’t give 100 people free access to our mobile apps. If those shared users specifically want to use our mobile apps (as opposed to all our other free apps), they’ll need to do a one-time, in-app purchase to unlock that platform.

We do need to fund development, clothe our families, put food in our pets’ bowls, etc. :grinning:

Hi Chrisc

I got that totally acceptable. 100 user’s share is inclusive of 15 home user’s or 100+15 or 85+15. Even for home user’s share is needed otherwise no point in adding them.

2nd a unique query on remote access. Suppose i have 2 ISP in load balancing one support port forwarding and other doesnt. I know its upto the balancer to decide which request to go which pack.

Is there any possible feature added in future to select the path just in case as remote access is needed part for shares .

It get prime isp and 2nd isp at times which takes some workarround to turn of non supported isp to get the wan of prime to make it to work.

ChrisC,
If I have Plex Pass Premium how many invitee users can I have on my server? 99? is there anyway to increase that to like 200?
btw I absolutely love the plex app on android and iphone. I fully agree for the charge on the app stores, and I like the price. I tell everyone just get it to support the developers who made it, then you can sync items directly to your phone. They love it. I love it.

Chris, just coming back to this point. I own two lifetime Plex passes as I need more than 14 managed accounts. Some features are not available to free or paid accounts outside of home. I have been running multiple servers just to access my media storage. In a recent update I have found a bug running two accounts from the same location, which I would not have to deal with if only I could increase the number of family members. Even if you charged an increase license fee, it would save so many other headaches.
