How much memory on GPU for 4K hw-transcoding?

Does the amount of memory (GB) on the GPU (PCIe) affect how many hw-transcodes (4K) can be done?

Thinking of buying the Sapphire Pulse RX 560 OC 2GB

But unsure if 2GB is enough for.a couple.of 4K hw-transcodes.

Or do anyone of you have any other recommendations about which GPU to buy?

It’s gonna be used in a windows 2016 hyper-v host and be passed on to a guest with DDA.

Nevermind, i bought myself a Nvidia Quadro P2000 for the server.
Hoping that will be enough for a couple 4K-transcodes.

Interesting that you mention this here. I bought this via Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072J422CZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
an RX 560 AERO ITX 4G OC and having MAJOR problems transcoding. Jumps a lot, not stable, seems to struggle.

Have you had better luck at all??

I’ve turned on Use Hardware Acceleration when available and although it IS turned on, the card seems to be struggling when i watch a 4k but want to transcode it to 1080 or 4k but lower convert.

Dont know yet. Getting my GPU tomorrow. I’ll see if i’ve got time to install it on the server tomorrow.

Hi,

hoping that u share the tests with us @mjewl

been thinking about getting one for the same purpose (or going the 8700k route)

@tchucho i got fed up with all the problems involved in making a GPU work in DDA.
And had a lot of them after installing the Quadro P2000. So i just cursed A LOT and then returned the POS.

Running Plex Media Server in hyper-v was not something im gonna recommend to anyone, ever… was working a lot better when i ran it on a mac mini. or well, any hardware without the VM part. So im gonna fire up my intel nuc and run it on windows 10. That one has a Iris Pro 650 GPU on the CPU. think it will be enough for me.

was curious to see the performance of the P2000 on multi 4k stream

I didn’t manage to play even one. Just black screen.

not the best thing to read when thinking about one eheheh

Keep in mind that I used it in a VM with DDA.
I’m guessing it works better with using it like "normal"so to speak…
