“When a Plex app goes to play the collapsed item, it will automatically request and play the most suitable item by default.”
What is a most suitable item?
I have 1080p and 4k movies and I would like to play by default the 1080p.
But, for some movies Plex is choosing the 4k one, and for other one the 1080p version.
Alphabetical order doesn’t change the default version.
I tried deleting tags for a movie, then it works, but for another one it doesn’t.
The client will play the version with the bitrate that best fits the settings for that client. If you have a 50Mbps 5K file and a 10 Mbps 1080 file and your client is set to play 20 Mbps, it will pick the 10 Mbps 1080 one. If you have the app set to play original/maximum, it will pick the 4K version.
This seems to have been a request for several years now. I don’t mind the highest resolution to be the default, but I would like the option to select which version you want to be defaulted if I want it different on specific files.
I prefer my movies to have subtitles for foreign speech to be burned in, it helps my dad not need to figure out how to turn on or choose subtitles and monkey with all that when he streams my movies. I have some movies where I have the subtitles in them and some where I don’t.
Some people have 4K versions and 1080p versions and would prefer the 1080p to be default.
This should be something you can do, can’t you? Please?
