Dear Plex Team,
I am writing to propose a new feature that I believe would significantly enhance the user experience on Plex. As a dedicated user of Plex, I have come across a situation where I have multiple versions of the same movie or TV show. Currently, Plex automatically selects a version based on quality and resolution. However, there is no option for users to set a default version preference.
The feature I am proposing is a setting that allows users to prioritize the version of the media file that will be played by default. For instance, if there are multiple versions of a movie, users could set a preference for either the highest quality version or the lowest quality version. The files would then be sorted according to this preference, allowing the default playback to be either the highest or lowest quality version.
When multiple versions of a file exist, they should also be sorted according to the user’s set preference, whether it’s on the information page or in the file path within the media information.
Currently, the order can be quite chaotic, with high-quality versions appearing before low-quality ones in some instances, and vice versa in others. This makes it difficult to distinguish between multiple versions of a file when one needs to be deleted.
This feature would provide users with greater control over their viewing experience, particularly for those with specific quality preferences or bandwidth limitations. It would also streamline the process of selecting a version, making Plex more user-friendly and efficient.
I understand that implementing new features requires careful consideration and resources. However, I believe that this feature would be a valuable addition to Plex and would greatly benefit the Plex community. I kindly ask the Plex team to consider this proposal and would appreciate any feedback from the community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
