How to access a shared Folder?

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876

Hi there,

I have my Plex Server, all set up and working flawlessly under my account. I have 3 libraries on this server.

Someone else set up their own Plex account, and I shared 2 of my libraries with them, which again worked flawlessly and they are now able to access all the media within those 2 libraries.

Then, I shared a specific (top-level) folder within the 3rd library, as I don’t want them to have access to the whole library, but just this folder.

It seems to have worked, as I see this folder is in the list of shared folders with this user, and the other user can also see in their “Users & Sharing” that this folder is shared.

BUT, we cannot find any way of them accessing that folder. It doesn’t show up on the dashboard anywhere, nor in the search. What should we do? How can I make this folder appear in their Plex account for browsing?

Thanks in advance!

You can’t share a folder. Can you explain more on exactly what you did?

Sure, so I navigated to the folder, then in the top-right menu, I clicked the three dots and selected “Share”

It then asked me for the other person’s email, which I entered and clicked SEND

I can confirm that the folder got shared because I can see it in my Users&Sharing menu, under SHARED MEDIA.

The other person can see it here too, but they can’t click on the album nor navigate to it in any other way.

Ah you are referring to photos. Sorry, yes you can share a folder from the photos library. I was thinking videos or music.

Your friend does not access the shared item from that screen. If they look in their sidebar (list of libraries on the left side), at the bottom will be a more option. Click on that. Your server will be listed in there. An entry in there will be “Shared”. Liek this.

That’s how they access those photos.

Thank you! That works. For some reason it only showed up a while after the folder was shared.

All is good now
