Live Free or DVR Hard
more like āLive TV and DVR Hardā, I really hope so.
Could someone write a walkthru on how to do this? There are many steps in different comments, which makes it confusing for who is trying to start adding a 2nd HDHR to Plex DVR.

^:)^ That is too perfect. It has to be so!
By the way, I see the mention of adding two separate DVRs if your devices are different (Prime and a Extend), however, in case anyone is interested in doing it this way, I added my Extend device to my existing DVR along side the Prime unit and mapped the Primeās channels to the Extend model (there are lower channels of the same kind with my cable provider - such as NBC SD version on channel 8 and NBC HD version on channel 1008) so that I can use both units with the one DVR yet have different guide mapping to each unit so the DVR doesnāt get confused. Itās a little bit of extra work when setting up a recording because I have to decide if I want the Extend unit to record say Gotham vs. the Prime unit and I have to manually select which channel it records on via the drop down menu in the advanced settings. But, then I know that I will have enough tuners available for my Monday night line up that has way too many shows all back to back (Monday night is really the only night I would hit conflicts).
Anyway, putting it out there for anyone wanting to go this route. You just have to make sure you manually select which channel you want to record on otherwise I think the DVR will get confused and not record either if it attempts to record on two channels (more of an assumption, not tested yet).

@rodgerzeisler 's post here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1270016/#Comment_1270016 is a great step by step IMHO (could probably be marked as the answer too).

I added a second device using Elanās method (adding through UI, capturing the POST, removing it through the UI, etcā¦) and see a couple of issues. First, I now have 2 program guides in the left navigation pane under manage
Thatās correct, you will see a Program Guide for each EPG/DVR, essentially.
Second, it will not allow me to schedule more than 2 shows at the same time without the 3rd show reporting a conflict with the other 2.
The multi-DVR scenario hasnāt completely been finished for more homogeneous scenarios where youāre trying to record the same show from multiple DVRs. Itās more for things like you have a DVR in Britain and youāre recording all the British shows, and a US DVR recording all the US shows.
Basically, weāve opened up this brave new world via API while we figure out more of the details, but Iām extremely happy to see people playing with it ![]()

Basically, the commands are as follows. The XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX needs to be replaced with your Plex Token. You can find this token by finding media in your library, clicking Info from the ⦠menu, and then View XML at the bottom of the popup. Look in the URL (Address) box of your browser and the Plex Token is at the end of URL. The examples below assume you are on the same machine that Plex Media Server is running on.Use this command to find out the key of your DVR (X):
curl http://localhost:32400/livetv/dvrs?X-Plex-Token=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUse this command to find out the key of the device that is not already added to your DVR (Y):
curl http://localhost:32400/media/grabbers/devices?X-Plex-Token=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUse this command to add the second device to your DVR:
curl -X PUT http://localhost:32400/livetv/dvrs/X/devices/Y?X-Plex-Token=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXNow go to Settings | DVR | Manage Channels for the new tuner and map each channel to the drop down channel guide source.
Agree with the above, but I would first delete your existing DVR using the UI. Create a new DVR using the IP for your second HDHOMERUN using the UI. Delete the second device and recreate the first one using the UI. Then run the commands above.
I just bought myself another HDHomerun Connect box (UK) after having the first one and using it with Plex. However, I found that I am recording so much TV there are conflicts all over the place. So I bought the second presuming that Plex would automatically see it in the DVR setting, and I could add it.
It didnāt see it, so I went to this forum and found this⦠am I right that there is no support for 2 DVR boxes? I presumed there would be. IF there currently isnāt then:
Thanks in advance.

Could someone from Plex tell me if they are planning to add support later (soonish)
Support for multiple HDHR device is there, it just isnāt exposed in the UI yet similarly to how postprocessing in Beta 2 wasnāt exposed in the UI
Is the post above from Dean Junk the way to set up two HDhomerun Connects? Would prefer not to have 2 guides but if I have to for now then so be itā¦
You do not need to have 2 guides, just follow the instruction in this thread.
Specifically this post:https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1270016/#Comment_1270016
how about some love for earlier generation silicon dust hdtv dual tunersā¦
Thanks for the tip. It was easy enough to add another HDHR PRIME to my DVR.
I would add a wish that the boxes connected to the DVR could share the same channel list, so that I donāt have to maintain each separately.
Thanks for the quick answer. I tried the commands above (curl etc) in my Windows 10 Server in CMD, but says it doesnāt recognise the command. Is this command just used for Linux?
How do I run them for my Windows 10 Server running plex?
Thanks againā¦

This is the best option for Windows 10 and I know because I first suggested the first option and disavowed it later.
Being able to add a second hdhomerun has enabled me to shutdown my old setup. Recordings across multiple tuners is working great. This really ROCKS!! Thanks Plex!!!

Thanks for this - very helpful for us newbies⦠followed the instructions and used the curl commands and bingo⦠plex now sees the two tuners! And both use the same guide! So I am well happy, have been happily recording 4 programs at once ![]()
So Sky Q should be worried, they charge Ā£80 a month to have these functionalities that Plex offer for just the plex pass. Ok, I donāt get all the SKy channels⦠but also have a Now TV subscription which gives my all Sky channels and movies (except sports) but I do get to watch my recorded TV from ANY device⦠I have apple TV, iPhone, Roku, windows, and I can watch in one room and pick up where I left off in another!
All that is needed now is Live TV with pausing, and being able to watch a program that you have started to record before it finishes (so if I get in late to watch the football, I know I can just start from the beginning of the recording as it records the background).
My wife used to watch a lot of Netflix and Now TV, but actually prefers Plex now as she can record all the stuff she actually wants to see and the guide is brilliant as she can easily find shows she likes using the search or genre.
And having it particular to each user is a master stroke!!
This is a brilliant setup, and I am sure those features mentioned will come (at least I hope) so well done Plex for doing a great.
Can this method be used to also add a device to the Plex DVR if you are running it on the Nvidia Shield?
EDIT: Nevermind, I figure it out and YES, you can add an additional device to the DVR on the Shield!
While this is super cool, its pretty difficult to manage the channels on the second device.
Is it possible to allow for mutliple guide sources per tuner in a future update.
I have an HDHR Prime which i use to record premium content and I have a set of HDHR 4 OTA tuners which i used to record superior quality OTA HD streams for my locals (2,5,7,9,11,32, etc.)
What would be steller is if I had the option to:
a) select a different guide source and pull in the broadcast guide for those tuners.
b) Plex could manage all of those channels together and allow me to select priority tuners for specific channels.
SageTV does this and does it quite well. I realize that this is a beta and a DARN good one at that! But this would be a sweet feature to get on the roadmap.
