I have been using the Plex Media Server on my QNAP NAS for more than 2 years, it has been working fine until 2 days ago that it shows that that it cannot reach the site.
I have attempted the following but still unable to reach the site:
stop / start Plex Media Server
Restart QNAP NAS
Reinstall Plex Media Server
Now i can launch the Plex Media Server from the QNAP NAS but it can’t detect the content.
When I click on “+ Your Media”, it keep prompting me “Get Plex Media Server” which direct me to the download site “https://www.plex.tv/en-gb/media-server-downloads/?langr=1” of the Plex Media Server.
Appreciate if someone can advice add the my libraries of media back to the Plex Media Server.
You’ll have to explain exactly what you did in terms of Reinstall.
You may have a PMS server to recover or some backups.
What do you see when you SSH into the QNAP and give it these commands that list your backups sorted by filename?
cd "$(getcfg -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf PlexMediaServer Install_path)/Library/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases"
ls -l | sort -k 8
These files are my database backups created by Plex’s Scheduled Tasks:
Just 3 days ago. I just click the upgrade and walk away without checking until on Saturday when i was trying to watch some movies than realised the problem.
I am having the same problem on my QNAP TS-451+ NAS on software 4.3.6.1070 Build 20190919. I was having issues and I had to make some changes to the server so I formatted all my hard drives. When I tried to reinstall Plex 2 days later, I can log in, but it says it is unable to find my server. I tried installing plex through the QNAP App Center, and when that failed, I manually installed the 1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc-x86_64.qpkg. I have tried setting it up in Internet Explorer, Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and got the same problem on them all. I have restarted the NAS and that did not help. Because I formatted the NAS, I cannot revert the server to an older version. Has anyone come up with a way to fix this? Or can I get an older version of the software to install that? Thanks
Then you can’t claim your PMS, since you are not using what is known as private address space!
Also, the workstation trying to claim, is not on the same IP net as the PMS!
(Above is mandatory for the claim to work)
Your IP address’s used are NOT advised, from a security stand!
When said, to claim your PMS, use this:
And you most use the Linux variant, and when prompted for an ip address, type 127.0.0.1
I am not going to plex on my computer. I am going into my QNAP NAS through my network using the Qfinder app which opens up an internet connection and connects to the NAS. I then click on the plex app which opens plex up. This is how I had it setup before and it worked fine.
I tried to do what you said. But the QNAP settings said that 127.0.0.1 was already taken and would not allow me to use that address. So I looked up Private Network address and saw that 172.16.0.0 was one of the addresses. I changed the IPv4 and the DNS server addresses to 172.16.0.0. I then had to connect my computer to the NAS via the second LAN cable port because after changing the IP, I could not connect to the NAS anymore. After connecting to the NAS via the lan cable, I was able to access the NAS but it was now on IP address http://169.254.10.215:8080/cgi-bin/. I was able to reinstall plex and access it but now instead of saying it can’t find the server, it says " No soup for you. The server you are trying to access doesn’t want to let you in. Make sure your’e signed in as a user with access to this server."
I am not sure what happened. After I disconnected my computer from the NAS and reset the IP settings, I hooked the internet cable to the second port on the NAS and rebooted both my computer and NAS. Now it is magically connecting to Plex and fully functional. I guess the internet cable has to be hooked to the second LAN port, not the first. Whatever the reason, it is now working. Thanks for your help.
