How to add missing DVB-channels?

Plex only lets me choose one of three different channel-providers to scan channels for, instead of doing the sane thing and letting me scan ALL THREE of them. Since each one only finds some of the available channels to me instead of all of them, I have no way of getting Plex to see all the channels that are actually available to me. My TV, for example, isn’t this stupid; it just scans all the available channels and finds them all!

I have no idea where Plex gets these channel-providers and their settings from, but they’re clearly wrong. Also, like I mentioned, not letting me to scan them all and only letting me scan one of them is fricking idiotic.

So, how do I either make Plex scan them all or, alternatively, add the missing channels manually?

Plex only gives me three options: DVB-C Finland (TTV Elisa, Tampere), DVB-C Finland (Sonera Cable) and DVB-C Finland (Welho cable network) of which:

#1 finds 17 unencrypted channels, but e.g. the YLE-channels and Nelonen are missing.
#2 finds 11 unencrypted channels, but e.g. MTV3 is missing while YLE-channels and Nelonen are found.
#3 finds 19 unencrypted channels, but e.g. MTV3 is missing while YLE-channels and Nelonen are found…

w_scan, on the other hand, finds 26 unencrypted channels, including all the aforementioned channels, and all of which work just fine in e.g. Kaffeine. This goes to show that the problem isn’t the tuner, but Plex itself and its idiotic way of restricting the channels to search for.

If I understand correctly, you basically have three EPG (guide) choices; if that’s the case, then unfortunately, what you’re experiencing is how Plex works by default currently. It will only allow you to choose one guide.

However, you may be able to work around this by creating an XMLTV file to use in place of Plex’s guide data.

You can search the forums or 'net for more info; here’s one example that mentions two possible sources for XMLTV data:

Nope, that does not add the missing channels, it only changes where Plex gets the information what’s running on the channels it found.

@chrisallen How do I force Plex to search through all the Finnish DVB-C frequencies, instead of only the predefined subset?

Sorry for not being more explicit: you would find an XMLTV source for all three “guides” and merge them into a single XMLTV. I’m pretty sure this is possible.

No, that is not how it works. XMLTV is only the EPG-data, it does NOT specify the frequency-range or settings for searching channels themselves – Plex still insists on only letting me choose one of the three presets when searching for channels, whether I then use XMLTV or not to supply the EPG-data for those channels.

Right you are. Sorry!

Well, I opened the file com.plexapp.plugins.library.db with DB Browser for SQLite, found the channel-information stored in the table media_provider_resources as XML in the field “data” and manually added most of the missing channels in there by hand. A couple of them don’t seem to have an EPG-source available for them, but most of them do and now I can access a few more channels than I could previously.

This is not a solution, though. I still maintain that Plex-devs should fix the DVR-stuff instead of forcing people to jump through such convoluted hoops just to get access to all of their channels via Plex.
