Hi there,
I have been using plex for many years and today i got my first HdHomerun tuner.
Setting up the tuner with the hdhomerun tool, it scanned the tuner and found 100 channels (and radio)
Now, when i go into Plex and try to setup the tuner, it only finds 62 channels (and radio stations)
Browsing through the list I can only see about 30 tv channels, but i know from the hdhomerun scan and player that there are 64 tv channels.
So i tried to scan again using some of the other providers from the drop down box, but then found nothing.
How do i get Plex to do a complete scan of the tuner and not only from the premade list?
Kind regards
Kasper
Plex has no support for channels which donât allow recording or which are scrambled. These channels are automatically removed from the list.
Hi OttoKerner,
Thank you for your reply.
So, even if I can watch the channel in hdhomerun player, it can still be removed from plex ?
Kind regards
Kasper
The HDHomerun player is a different software. I understand that they let you watch these kind of channels, but their DVR (or was it timelapse?) feature is also disabled.
Thank you for your help OttoKerner

Hi again @OttoKerner,
I just did some more digging and im able to play all the streams in VLC and Kodi.
But for some reason, plex does not see all the channels.
Could it be that it does not have an updated list of all all frequencys the channels have ?
Kind regards
Kasper
Please tell me if the stations are missing from the left or the right list when you âeditâ the tuner in Plex.
Hi OttoKerner,
They are missing from the left side.
The channels that are there i can match up with my XmlTv source
Kind regards
Hi again,
For testing purposes i just installed Emby and it can see all the channels to?
Im really not sure what im doing wrong?
Kind regards
@OttoKerner Can i do any logging or what should i do to try and resolve this ?
Kind regards
Does it matter if those missing channels are made âFavoritesâ at the HDHR Interface?
All two (2) of three (3) of the channels I want shown have yellow stars, indicating theyâre âFavoritesâ. Click to cycle through the states, the last one being off. That may, or may not help Plex discover those channels, but itâs worth a look.
The third channel is Kids 24/7 - so I donât need that one and Plex doesnât see it.
Ha!
I never noticed those stars.
I have all of them grey i.e. at default.
When I do a channel scan in the web menu of my HDHomerun, all of those channels appear in Plex, at the left side. (even the encrypted ones)
Doing another channel scan from the Plex menu is not necessary.
There was an annoying âfeatureâ of the HDHR software we discovered during itâs BRIEF tenure here - wherein if the channel wasnât a âFavoriteâ it wouldnât show in the HDHR software.
That prompted me to âFavoriteâ those channels - and theyâve been that way ever since, but if there are a mix of favorited and non favorited that might cause some funny bidness. One or the other would probably be best.
âStarâingâ a channel doesnât have any influence over here. But if you give all channels you donât want the red X, they wonât appear in Plex.
Which makes managing the list in Plex a bit easier.
My hdhomerun is an older model, it does not have those menu points.

Then I assume it only scans those frequencies which are listed for your region (and cable operator).
These frequency lists are located in the program folder of Plex.
On Windows you can find them in C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Tuner\Shared\scanners
I donât know the exact location on Linux, look out for the folder hierarchy of Resources\Tuner\Shared\scanners
You should then dive down in the appropriate subfolder, which depends on whether you are using the terrestrial or the cable tuner in your device.
(Which brings me to a different idea: is the âfullâ channel list in the HDHR tv app a combination of the channels which are available via antenna and cable?
Plex might only be able to use one out of these two.)
Then you need to find the .ini file which is used to scan for channels. There is unfortunately no index to find the right one. You need to open them up in a text editor and read the first 3 lines.
When you find the right one, you can try to verify if itâs listing all transponder frequencies which are relevant to you (and add those which might be missing).
See Plex DVR setup - DVB-C Europe: Full frequency range for details.
Hi @OttoKerner,
Thank you for this, i will try it out.
Iâm only getting channels via DVB-C.
But I have to say⊠Linking a post from 2018 with the same problem and no response from Plex.
That makes me rethink this. Why are there no official support for paying customers ?
But I will give it a shot.
Kind regards
Hi @OttoKerner
After creating my own " frequency channel list" file with the muxâs from my cable company im seeing all my channels. But creating the list and getting into the right place in the docker container is not for newcomers
Some UI help for creating these files would be a nice feature request.
But thanks for your time helping me with this. I really appreciate it !
Kind regards
Kasper
Make sure to backup this list someplace else, because it will get overwritten on the next plex server software update.
