How to add new files into existing library?

as Title, how to add a new movie into an existing library?

i’ve tried put movie into the movie media folder that i’m currently using and i’ve update library but nothing happens.

what’s wrong?

i’ve tried several times, with different movies, but there’s no way to add new files.

Any suggestion?

How are you storing your movies, do you have a single directory with all of them in it, or 1 folder per movie?


I assume you are following the naming guide in naming your movies?

It would be handy to see some of your logs.

Can you restart the media server, do a deep scan on your movie section, and then upload the Plex Media Server.log and Plex Media Scanner.log here.

i’ve restarted the pc and performed a new deep scan, now files where add correctly.

Newbie here…I need a step by step tutorial to add movies, one at a time, to my existing “Movies” library.
Can you provide my with same please?

To add movies you:

  1. Make sure the movie is named correctly. ( MovieName (Year).ext ) see: http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_PMS_Naming_Guide
  2. Copy the movie into your movie directory. You may have separate directories for each movie but I find that adds unnecessary complexities in maintenance. I do use sub-folders for groups of movies that are part of a franchise like the “Harry Potter” movies are all in a sub-folder under my “Movies” folder.

Once you do those two things Plex will pickup the added movie unless you have explicitly turned off automatic scanning. That is something some people do and even recommend but I do not. I think Plex should be set to scan on any detected changes.

That is all the steps required. I hope you find that easy enough.

From the Home screen go to Settings then Manage Libraries then Scan Library Files.
Do this after adding any files to the storage drive. Give Plex some time to scan and you will see the titles appear in the library.
