So I am fairly learning the ins and outs of using this but not sure how I would classify unaired pilots or episodes from specific shows like The Office from 2005 in my file structure within the media holding hard drive. The seasons of The Office have usually like 1 or 2 episodes with different titles than the originally aired episodes and I would like to be able to have them all on my Plex server. Would someone be kind enough to explain or show examples of how I would organize them on said hard drive to then add them to Plex and bee seen as if it was an actual part of the series.
Go to thetvdb and see how they are posted.
Usually specials and pilots end up names season 00 episode xx so these below would be named the same as other episodes but named S00E01 or whatever special it is listed as.
Ok so I have added the Specials using the format of what you have shown above and it compiles them into season 1 and I don’t want that to happen is there any other suggestions because it is named exactly as thetvdb shows and not organizing correctly within my Plex. so I moved them out of the hard drive and refreshed my plex and all of original non specials are showing correctly.
Ok thank you nokdim all is working correctly now I appreciate it.
Edit: Noticed you have things working. Was typing my reply & didn’t see your follow-up until later…
Make sure you follow Plex’s guidelines when it comes to TV show naming and organization. Plex is a bit forgiving for movies. Not so much for TV shows.
Here’s the guidelines. The second two links will have the detail for TV shows. The first is the Table of Contents with links to info for movies, home movies, etc.
Naming ‘Series’ & ‘Season’ Based TV Shows
Here’s an example (from the TV Show Specials doc). You can use either Specials or Season 00 for the subfolder.
/TV Shows
/Heroes
/Specials
Heroes - s00e02 - Countdown to Season 3.mkv
/Season 01
Heroes - s01e01 - Genesis.avi
Also, if you rename/reorganize the files, you’ll need to perform the Plex Dance.
The purpose of this is to remove all cached metadata and xml data for an item that Plex usually keeps. This helps when you want to “start from scratch” for particular item
- move all files for the media item out of the directory your Library is looking at so Plex does not “see” it anymore
- update library ( scan for media items )
- empty trash
- clean bundles
- double check naming schema and move files back
- update library
ok having an issue followed all previous recommended steps edited and renamed all files also checked thetvdb.com and it’s not adding them at all. The show is Justice League, but on season 3 it became Justice League Unlimited and even tried creating it’s own folder for just the Unlimited seasons and episodes but it’s not working please help.
Nevermind figured it out had to remove the word Unlimited from everything.
