How to Alphabetize/Order Editions?

I’m a little confused by how editions of movies are ordered by default, or if there’s any way to change them. For instance, if I use the tags {edition-Director’s Cut} and {edition-Theatrical} in the file names, I’m never certain what order they’ll appear in. It’s not always alphabetical, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to change it.

Am I missing something?

As far as I know they are just ordered essentially in the way they were added/scanned in since the sort title is the same for each

Dang, I wish there was a better way to rearrange them without removing and re-adding.

You can edit the sort title.

That’s true, but it’s an even less elegant solution. If I have:

King Kong (1933)
King Kong (1976) {edition-Extended}
King Kong (1976) {edition-Theatrical}
King Kong (2005)

…and I want the '76 Theatrical version to be before the Extended version, using Sort Titles “King Kong A” and “King Kong B” will put both versions after the 2005 film, so then I have to mess with all of them.

Since sort titles are not seen by anyone and just used to sort, you can make them anything you want, so don’t really see how the solution is “… even less elegant.” It might additional work that you do not have to do, but it gets the job done.

In the case of your example, you should be able to just set the sort title for the 1976 King Kong versions to:

King Kong (1976) 1 {edition-Theatrical}
King Kong (1976) 2 {edition-Extended}

Since the sort title is being sorted alphabetically and the “Extended” and “Theatrical” portions in the 1976 version are what is causing the sort order to be the incorrect order for you (E vs T), adding 1 and 2 after the year will sort the 1976 versions how you want, while maintaining the sort order based on year as is.
