How to assign an agent to a television series

Is there a way to assign an agent to a particular tv series overriding the agent used for the category? For example, I primarily use TVDB for television series, but I have one, “Night Gallery” where the episodes names do not agree with the show. Instead, TMDB has what I need. I have tried using “Fix Match” and selecting TMDB, but it ignores it and continues to use TVDB.

Thanks
Dale

That’s exactly what fix match should do when you search with a different agent than set for the library. I do it all the time. what show are you trying to match?

That is the right method. However, after it performs the search you might see the original matching to TheTVDB as the first search result. See if there is a second result which looks plausible.

Do also check if the episode order you are after is possibly covered by TheTVDB’s ‘DVD order’ or ‘Absolute Order’, which you can activate by editing the already matched show.
On the ‘Advanced’ tab there is the dropdown selector ‘Episode Ordering’.
After changing this, you need to ‘Refresh Metadata’ for the whole show.

Night Gallery. TVDB has each story broken out as separate episodes which is not the way there are in the DVD set. TMDB has each episode correctly showing a combination of 2 or 3 stories.

odd/ I just tried and it worked fine. after the Fix Match search the results show the year as 1970 as themovieDB has it., instead 1969 like on TVDB. You were clicking on the search result correct not just closing the window right?

I selected TMDB as the search option and I got the 1970 result. I clicked on that, but it still shows the TVDB entry for 1969. I even tried “unmatching” and “matching” selected TMDB and no joy. It does not retain the choice of source.

how is the moviedatabase set up in your servers agent settings? what order of preference are they in?

on this page I mean.

Hi OttoKerner,

I changed the episode order to “Absolute” and refreshed the metadata. Still no joy.

Hi BigWheel,

Under “Shows” it had TVDB followed by The Movie Database. I moved The Movie Database to be first in line and it corrected my issue with Night Gallery.

However, will this change cause all future metadata for TV Shows to select The Movie Database first? I really only want this to happen for Night Gallery right now.

Thank you,

Dale

Then all your files must be named accordingly. All files must use the season number 01 (since the ‘absolute order’ only has one season).
And then all files must use the correct episode number which is listed for this ordering.

However, this show simply doesn’t have a valid episode list for the ‘Absolute Order’. You can see it when you switch to the Absolute order on TheTVDB website Night Gallery - TheTVDB.com
There are 0 episodes listed in Season 1, and 99 ‘unassigned’ episodes.

So you cannot use the Absolute Order, when matching to TheTVDB.

It will affect every show matched with TheTVDB agent. As soon as you load metadata from this agent, which happens either when you add new shows or when triggering ‘Refresh Metadata’.
It will still ‘match’ the show with TheTVDB, but the data from TMDB will take precedence. This is a highly confusing arrangement and you probably don’t want that for all your shows.

Don’t change the TVDB order. Change the TheMovieDB order since that is what you want to use.

Hopefully this will make more sense

The second row here under Shows has Personal Media, TheTVDB and The Movie Database Those let’s call your “main agents”.

notice those “main agents” are what you select for the library default and the options you choose for Fix Match. What my arrows are pointing at.

In the agent settings each main agent has a “subset” of agents which you can rearrange. the subset order can be completely different for each main agent.

in this image you can see my TheMovieDatabase “main” agent does not even have TVDB subset agent enabled.

This my TVDB main agent settings which has a different order or subset agents

The subset agents are for filling in info that one metadata source might not have. or you might put “Local Media Assets” on top like i do because even though i generally want to use the TheMovieDB i want it to prefer a local poster for example if i put it with the video file.

So what I am saying is in your agent settings under your main agent, The MovieDB, make sure for it’s subsets, theMovieDB is above the TVDB agent. (or TVDB is disabled).

Don’t change the TVDB main agent since that works fine for your main library
