Just added a person and had a pop-up about sharing activity and watchlist with them. I said NO, but am now seeing all their activity. I found that I could block all user’s activity from being displayed under “online Media Sources - Discover” but I do not see anywhere to specify that I don’t want existing “friends” to see my activity and watchlist (nor do I see any way to change it for the user I said no to if I wanted to in the future).
Where is the setting to remove or add the ability for “friends” to see your activity and watchlist??
Thank you! I was able to find it and validate they shouldn’t be able to see my history. And I have already turned off the view of those who are sharing as I don’t need that info cluttering up the view.
But boy, this is a terrible design choice that was made to hide account settings like this. A privacy setting that is hidden under some general Profile info screen isn’t really bad place to have it. Every other setting is in the main settings section and there is a number of settings there under your Account (including Account…). Yet for some reason there is a secret option if you go to a separate area and a sub area under that? That section should really be removed and situated with the rest of the settings.
And the option doesn’t make sense. Private or “Friends Only”. Only? What other option is there?
Also, it really should be a choice by user, not all or none. You might have some acquaintances or family members you don’t want to see their info or have them se yours but for a handful you do. /rant
There is no other. A theoretical option would be “public to anyone”, which will likely never arrive.
Keep in mind that the default for all three is “private”.
So unless you explicitly want it to be visible by other users, you don’t have the need to seek out those settings.
That seems fine to me as I can’t imagine a situation where I would want “public to anyone” from me or anyone else. Don’t think that numbers of folks advertising they are watching things that are only available on streaming would bring any positive attention to Plex.
As for the sharing, it is good that the default is to not share, but it is still going to cause concern as folks won’t know that it is the default. They also may be like me and not even know that feature is there, since it is newer and not in the settings page. Then get surprised by it when someone else shares their activity and all of the sudden you are seeing theirs and yours (when you didn’t see yours) show up on titles. In searching through forums and instructions I didn’t use the right combination of words to find the page that was linked here, so they might not either. That page doesn’t even mention that the default sharing setting is off in a clear way (to me).
In my case, with the person that was sharing activity, I got the pop up asking about whether I want to share activity with them. I said No, so I was confused when their activity showed up and concerned that they could see mine. I wasn’t familiar with the function and since I said No, I thought that applied to saying that I didn’t want to see theirs or share mine.
I really really would prefer this to be listed with “library access” as that is where we are specifying what we want “friends” to be able to see. All aspects of sharing by user should be listed in that same place.
Since Plex has the Discovery feature, as well as the integration with streaming services, this is nothing critical.
The “Watched” information doesn’t show where or how a title was watched. Just when.
You can make any title appear in this list, simply by searching it in Discover and then marking it as “watched”. So can do any other user.
An item appearing in this list doesn’t mean that you have it on your server. Or on the server of a friend.
