I just set this up on my home system. It worked like a champ.
Check your Antivirus mate!
Sorry for the double post…
Just want to say wow! This app is sooooooo useful for everyone whose using Plex and VPN!
And for you whou couldn’t connect to Plex when the VPN is on, try OpenVPN…
So this is not meant for people using OpenVPN directly from the router. Is there a solution that makes Plex work with a router based OpenVPN?
So been playing with this bypass and having an issue still. It won’t let me access the plex app when i open through Edge. The 127.0.0 address just doesn’t load at all for any local host. Anyone have any ideas?
Hi, if you’re still on this forum, have a couple questions you may be able to help me with thanks.
Are you using the full address http://127.0.0.1:32400 The VPN bypass software shouldn’t affect local network. Also, the 127.0.0.1 only works on the computer running the server software. If it is on another PC you will need to use the ip address of the computer running the server software. Also, you can right click Plex in the taskbar by the clock and choose “Open Plex…” and it will open it in your web browser.
I think edge needs to be enabled in order to access localhost
Try with the real ip address instead and see what happens.
Has anyone been successful using this with NordVPN?
Thats part of the issue, even on that computer running the PMS with VPN active i can’t just “open” plex, all 127 and local host processes will refuse to load. i did try the full address but it won’t take it in the VPN Bypass either.
Hmmmm, haven’t heard of that one. But i will look in to that as well. My only other work around will be to try and run a VM and run my download programs in there.
So i have been trying this but still having issues. I have all those exemptions, as well as the IP addresses you posted for plex, and i have the target gateway as my routers external IP, but when i run this service i still get external access blocked as it routes to the VPN IP address, and also plex.tv is being blocked. Plex can’t access it, nor can i through any browser. Any ideas?
The target gateway should be your routers internal ip (Your local network) not the external (from your ISP). Make sure it’s not being blocked by a virus scanner. When you have the VPN bypass GUI running you sould see Service Running in green at the top. Also, you can stop the VPN bypass from the GUI and see if you can access the server without it running. You should be able to access it either way, but I suspect the gateway being set to the external ip address is the problem.
Most internal networks start with 192.168.0.1 or something similar, if you go to the status of your network card without the vpn on, your routers ip will be listed as the gateway in your status, or you can do a command prompt and type ipconfig /all then hit enter and find your ethernet adapter and it will be listed as the gateway.
Also, some VPN use a low metric. This is copied from the creator’s site
“If your VPN metric is lower than default Bypass routes, just turn off automatic metric in your NIC and set it to 1.
This is a setting available in ncpa.cpl > NIC Properties > TCP/IPv4 properties > Advanced.”
So on Windows go to the search at the bottom and type ncpa.cpl and hit enter or click the file at the top of the search results.
Then right click your network card and go to properties.
Find TCP/IP v4 and double click it.
Then go to advanced at the bottom.
Then uncheck the automatic metric and enter 1 in the box.
Then Click OK on all 3 open windows to close them.
If those fixes don’t work, then I don’t know what else to look at, hopefully someone else will.
So tried that no luck. If i change it to 192.168.4.1 same results, plex.tv still won’t load and i get nothing under remote access. Unknown private IP, Unknown public IP no internet access.
I have the same issue. Everything works fine on other computer on the network, but on the plex server I can’t access plex localhost of plex.tv I use NordVPN.
So i actually just switched over to CyberGhost VPN, setup the VPN rules to only use the VPN for the 2 programs i need it for, and setup the URL exceptions with the same ones form the VPN Bypass setup and so far been working perfect. No issuers with Extern Access, or the Plex TV & Movie functions.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you
Thank you. With VERY brief testing, it seems to work with Proton VPN.
Maybe this was addressed already, but the only “downside” I have found so far is that, oddly, it shows the following in remote access:

But despite that, it still seems to work remotely.
could use some help. not sure what i am doing wrong, my remote access is working without my vpn (IP Vanish) but when i run the service and turn on my vpn still nothing. also when i run the service without the vpn i can not access it remotely.
