How to change / edit Restriction Profiles?

Version 1.40.2.8395

I have a couple of kids managed accounts that I’d like to add / edit the Restriction Profiles that are set (or not set) for them.

I don’t see any way to do this. Do I need to delete their accounts and re-create them with the Restriction Profiles?

Can you change the Restriction Profiles if one is set from the beginning? Or do you need to re-create accounts when you want to change their Restriction Profiles setting?

I had been managing access to my own Kids Movies libraries, but I want to manage the content from the Plex Movies & TV shows without turning that off for all managed users.

Go to Plex Home.

Click on the managed account name.

Click on Restrictions.

Edit the Restriction Profile.

Save Changes.

@OttoKerner Tagging you because I dont have that option, and I am a Plex Pass user. I do see it if I go to create a new managed user.

Plex does not seem to be respecting my content restrictions, and I’d like to figure out whats going on before my 8 year old sees another ad for " Godzilla x Kong"

You cannot use age profiles for full accounts.
None of your shared users is a “managed” user. Only these can be restricted with an age profile.

Adding a full account into your Plex Home does not turn it into a managed account.
Since these are full accounts, they have full access permissions to their own account settings, where they can either enable or disable the various online media sources. Without any age restrictions.

OK, but why aren’t they at least respecting the content restrictions? I thought this was all addressed during the Discover rollout?

The content restrictions are for content that you are sharing with them from your own server.

The Watchlist, Discovery etc however have nothing to do with your own server. They are hosted on plex.tv, to which a full plex.tv account has full access.

OK. So I guess the solution is to get rid of those accounts and create new ones as Managed Users.

If I can make a suggestion…there needs to be a much more clear explanation of when and where the content ratings and restrictions apply and specifically who they apply to and who they don’t.

From the Parental Controls support page, I do not think that its explicitly clear that the “Discover” settings from the Admin account are not for the server, but for the account only. When I see the option of “Disabled” or “Disabled for Managed Users”, my understanding as the Admin is that it defaults to “Disabled for All Users” rather than “disabled just for me.”

Just my two cents as a dad.

Still having some restrictions not being respected…Live TV is available even though I’ve disabled it for the managed account “Older Kid” user.

Set Live TV to “Disabled for managed accounts”

The issue is again the gradual addition of features.
The Live Tv setting on your managed user is that for the Live TV of your server.
Whereas there is another “Live TV” as an Online media source.

So this is an issue of permissions hierarchy. I don’t want it off for all managed users. Just those managed users. If I think Live TV would be ok for my Teen’s account, for example.

The bigger issue, imho, is that this is not explicitly clear, and the defaults are not intuitive. There’s a very easy way for this all to be made perfectly clear for everyone, but its not. Its vague at best, especially for people who aren’t familiar with all the nooks and crannies that Plex has.

But there’s no reason for the Managed User Restriction settings not to say “Online Live TV” or “Server TV Tuner” or something that makes it crystal clear what is being turned on and off.

On my firewall, the hierarchy is Universal > Groups > Users, with the most specific rule applying. I could allow “managed users” to have access to Live TV, but turn it off for a specific managed user. Should be the same here.
