How to Clone a Plex Media Server?

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Hi,

I am trying to clone a PMS I have installed on a Raspberry Pi that accesses a shared google drive.
I am wanting to avoid having to rescan the libraries and downloading the metadata again as this takes me over a week even with a 200Mb download bandwidth.

How do I copy Plex’s database to a new and unique installation?

a simple search would have returned.

I had trying searching for an appropriate topic, but the above topic was not returned in my search.

My problem now is I can run both instances of my PMS, but not at the same time. I presume Plex is seeing them as the same server and is just updating the server with the name and ip address.

The question is how do i get Plex to see them as unique server instances. I presume this has something to do with the various IDs found in the Preferences.xml file.

In Preferences.xml is both the Friendly Name and the server ID’s

If you wish to run both concurrently and keep them separate:

  1. Stop one of them.
  2. Delete the Preferences.xml
  3. Start Plex
  4. Reclaim it but skip defining any Library sections (they are preserved in this type of reset)
  5. Give it a new name.
  6. When you arrive at the Dashboard, review all your settings.
  7. Done
