I want to make one library for action movies, another for romance and so on so forth… but when I try to do this, the library just picks up ALL the movies I have and combines them. Is there a way to keep same category libraries separate from each other?
You will have to separate the movies for this to really work.
example,
X:\Movies\Action
X:\Movies\Drama
X:\Movies\Romance
X:\Movies\Western
X:\Movies\Old B&W
X:\Movies\etc…
Then point each library to each folder path.
NewPlaza solution works but you may end with a long list of libraries. Also some movies may fit in more than one category.
If the films are well identified you can relay on the tags search like “Genre”.
After that you will only see the movies tagged with comedy.
You have to put some thought into it to find out what’s going to be sane and also usable. I have 26 libraries (and counting), but it took some complete redesigns before I came up with something that didn’t make me crazy trying to use:

Oh yeah. You bet. But nothing is perfect. I don’t like the “Genre” search because damn near every movie and be the same genre. The first time I saw comedy/horror and romance/horror I was like nope. Total crap.
Its all to find the good compromise point.
