If i want to set up Libraries with specific types of say Movies (Westerns, War, Comedy etc…) How do i set it up? If im reading it correctly i have to have seperate folders where my movies are stored, basically of each type of library. If that is the case, any movie say thats in one or more libraries i would have to have multiple copies stored, one per folder it is in. I would have thought somehow we could point the libraries to our main library (say “Movies”) and somehow select which we wanted by meta tags or something else. Any help would be appreciated. TY
For me, I have movies in several different genres. But my drive is set up with a single movie directory and then genre directories underneath it. I did that prior to Plex so that I could find movies more easily.
Now, within Plex, it reads the entire movies directory ( including all sub directories). Even though it stores them all in a single library, I can subdivide movies within the program by looking for specific genres. The genres are set up automatically when the movie pulls down metadata from movie databases, of course I can go in and change them if I choose to.
I would recommend playing with it for a little bit before you determine exactly how you want to do it “for real” the program has a lot of capability. I know I have found that it Asmore capability than I actually use.
You can use
- collections (check library options regarding collections)
- separate folders and load separate libraries each pointing to your movies genre folder
- genre sorting in plex by using movie genre with TheMovieDb agent…
thank you!
