How to Customize my home page

How do you customize the home page on a player on Android Tv box. I have seen some post on how to do it but my home page doesn’t have the settings they refer to. I have tried it in mobile and tv mode.

The latest version of the Plex for Android (TV) client is 7.26.0… can you double check what version you have installed on your Android TV box?
Or are you using Plex through a browser on that device?

It is on a Himedia Q10 Pro box that is running straight on the box. I switched back to mobile and now it has it at 6.2.0.986.

That sounds… wrong.
Version 6.2.0 was released on July 17, 2017. So either you got the wrong version information from your system or your system is very much out-dated. The latter (on the other hand) could explain why things don’t look like they do on the support pages.

The box is a few years old but it has the latest firmware. Is there a way to manually update the plex firmware?

Usually, the app should update find from the Google Play Store.
Alternatively you can manually update Plex by side loading the app with the respective application packages. Those are linked in the release announcements:

I have updated the firmware on the box and on Plex and now when its tries to play video I get audio and a black screen.

Are you able to customize the home page as described with the new/updated version of your Plex for Android TV client?

As for your follow-up remark:

  • can you please share some more details on the media you’re attempting to play? (you can find some technical details in Plex Web in the movie pre-play screen -> Get Info > View XML; look only for the content between <media>. and </media>)
  • can you share some of the details of your settings in the Plex for Android TV client (e.g. focusing on the audio/video playback and quality settings)?
  • when you play the movie like this… can you verify in the dashboard / now playing section of Plex Web if the video is played directly or transcoded?
  • do you get that issue with all your movies or only some of them?
