How to define stream type based on device, rather than location

I often travel with a spare Firestick TV in order to view recorded TV shows from hotels using a VPN on my home network in order to create a tunnel home. As a result, when I watch recorded a TV show, they stream as though on my home local network at a very high bandwith. But, if I disable the VPN and view the shows remotely, they stream fine at a lower bandwith more condusive with distance and hotel wifi. Is it possible to assign a set of streaming setting based on the a device - like the Firestick used to travel? I want to use the advantages of connecting to my home local network using VPN, but need the reduced bandwith settings for certain devices.

If you are only using that Firestick for travelling, you should be able to set the “Home streaming” setting under “Video Quality” to your preferred settings. Since your server thinks it is on the network because of the VPN, that should be the setting that it uses.

That setting exists on my Shield TV and it should exist on the Firestick as well if I am correct.

Thanks. That would be perfect. I’ll check out that setting.
