How to Distinguish between Movie versions?

Server Version#: 4.22.3
Player Version#: All

How does one handle two versions of the same movie? For example Apocalypse Now and Apocalypse Now Extended Version so that one can choose which to play.

Thank you …

There’s a number of options…

  1. You can use Plex’ built-in handling of different versions – this is however focusing on different quality versions of the same movie. The different versions will show as one item with a blue square on the poster indicating the number of different versions.
If you want to, you can subsequently split those versions and they’ll show as individual items (giving you the option to include edition details in each individual record’s name)

  2. At some point I have started to move editions in a library of their own (called “Movie Editions”). It’s definitely not ideal… but it helps me to avoid cluttering my library with “duplicate” entries for different editions
  3. Vote for the related feature suggestion to get better support for different editions of the same movie (not just different qualities) and hope Plex will implement this at some point. So far it has 900+ votes and counting – call me naive but I still hope this makes its way to the software
