How to fix the Bug "Indirect Play"?!

Indirect means the client cannot establish a direct connection to your Plex Media Server and using a Plex relay server instead. Usually this is due to some issue in the remote access setup… that can be some problem in the PMS configuration, your home network, router or the ISP. If the same remote connection is sometimes working fine and sometimes you still fall back to a relayed connection, there could be a problem where the server fails to report some updated connection details (e.g. if your ISP assigns your router a new public IP address or your server gets a new local IP address by the router).

Generally it’s worth to do some basic troubleshooting of your remote access setup. This way you can at least rule out the more common road bumps.

Usually there’s no witchcraft/wizardry involved when it comes to IT in general or Plex specifically… most of the time it’s rather common issues, bad configuration or unnoticed changes. As your connection and remote access setup involve more parties than just yourself, this can easily be a change outside your own control and not be of your own doing.
