How to FULLY disable Discover & Watchlist/Streaming Services

Moving everything to a managed user is a band-aid that has worked for me. Ideally, Plex would figure it out and realize they need to fix their ■■■■.

The sneaky lawyer argument here is that you are “choosing”. You’re choosing to search. You’re choosing to click on the links to external services. It’s only when you take those affirmative actions that the metadata gets collected and shared. Ergo, it’s all kosher under the terms of the policy.

Don’t want your metadata shared? Don’t search. That’s how they get you.

Yeah, I know, lawyers suck. Most of us try hard not to but it just comes with the job.

The function currently gathers information even without using the search function. Just by using the client app.

All this pseudo legal chatter is largely irrelevant though as that part will be decided outside this forum.

Is this true? In what way?

No. There is no choosing. It’s forced. I’m not going to argue with you about trying to twist words. It’s plain as day and they are going to provide an option to turn it off thus giving us the CHOICE.

That’s the end of that.

I’m not trying to argue with you or twist words. You said that Discover “gathers information even without using the search function.” I’m honestly unaware of that and if it’s doing so I’d like to know about it.

I’m just askin’ a question that you seemed to know something about!

maybe you two could start your own thread. instead of blaming eachother for whatever

I never said "gathers information even without using the search function.”

I’m replying to your post further up. Not your question to JohnAlex post.

@kegbeach Oops! My apologies. I didn’t pay close enough attention to where your post came from.

Very, very sorry.

I gotta find a setting to view these forums as threads.

And P. S., don’t be so certain that their promise to turn off the “More Ways to Watch” results is going to be a solution. I asked BigWheel if that change would actually stop the data collection or just hide the results from us while still sending the search terms back to Plex. There’s still been no answer on that one.

A solution is relative though - needs vary.

What Plex is doing, based on the traffic I’ve seen, is taking a search term and referencing against their meta data, passing that back to PMS (local) alongside the other results from Discover/Watch More. PMS then takes that ID and matches it against any locally stored shows/movies with that ID, which should then display above the results for Discover/Watch More.

So from that - if you’re using Plex Movies or Plex TV Series as the agent, the same data is already being shared.

As far as needs go - mine is simple. I need to disable Discover/Watch More entirely for my managed users, or Plex is not usable. Results should not be shown, I don’t care about the Plex Movies / Plex TV Series metadata match though.

So in the meantime, I spun up Jellyfin with a Kids Movies and Kids TV Shows library only for the kids to watch stuff, disabled all access to Plex. If we can’t disable those results, then Plex gets shut down and I just move the rest over to Jellyfin and I move on with my day. The fun will be setting it up remotely for family members, which has to wait a little bit, but is all prepped here anyway.

Aaahhh! OK. I see what you’re saying now.

I think that Plex still has an out by offering other agents but, as I pointed out earlier, the new Discover feature requires the use of the Plex agents to work right so I can appreciate your argument here.

this a NO GO implementation for paying customers.
i do not want to see “More Ways To Watch” just to see any streaming services where you COULD BUY stuff founded.
OR
they can make “activate” or “deactivate” this feature LIKE everything else they did.
Thank you & wish you a nice day!

It’s been more than 4 days now that the Discover/watchlist come out with all its “issues”…

I thought that this morning when opening up this forum i would see some official Plex communication about how they are sorry and how they will listen to us and take care of the problems they forced on us, maybe even they could talk about trust between a compagny and their clients…

Not only there were no communiqué, but i saw this post about the porn content thrown at our clients faces by Plex…

Hundreds and hundreds of posts and votes, here and on reddit, asking for what should be a simple thing as an option to turn off the new feature (even if meanwhile, you Plex should have turn it completly off by yourself after being aware of my kid accident, to run tests internaly by yourself) and what ?

Stitches, here and there…

I read all the posts in the mains threads about this fiasco, and there is about 3 posts/5 lines from Plex mainly saying sorry with closed lips and that you are taking it selriously, see ya in a few days…

You are taking it seriously ? We do to !

Introducing advertisement for external content on our screen without asking us and without giving us the choice to not seeing it,doesn’t seem serious neither reasonnable to me.
Using the word Beta to introduce those advertising and hope it will cover the mistakes and bugs doesn’t seem serious neither reasonnable to me.
Using your clients without their consent to be beta tester, doesn’t seem serious neither reasonnable to me…

So, here seems to be a serious and reasonnable question for you Plex :
Will we have the choice to turn off the discover/watchlist ?

I think you owe us a serious and reasonnable answer.

This is still what I’m looking for. I’ve already moved the kids stuff to Jellyfin full time, waiting for this to actually be addressed by Plex to see if everything moves there.

But I’m not waiting forever.

If some Plex employee would have starting viewing similar porn in their offices, Plex would have taken action immediately, or they would be facing possible lawsuits from other employees.

…and all we are asking for is an “Off Switch.”

Is it really so difficult?

By request from Plex, a thread has been started to outline specifically the features and options in configuration. Please take a moment, comment for clarity on the features as requested:

https://forums.plex.tv/t/admins-users-managed-users-managing-discover-watch-more-etc/

He was being more “cocky” than you were … mostly by just using that word. How he feels emotionally about the tone of your comments and not the content … is something he should “talk to his therapist about” it has no place here. If you actually look at the Plex forum rules … his comments is contrary to them.

Cheers,

I demand that stupid discover feature to be deleted right now! It makes only confusion about searching and spying us what we searching and that is REALLY what I dislike. I also dont like mixing my PLEX stuff with my Netflix stuff!

When I searching I only want to see my PLEX stuff!

Hi team!

Super disappointed with this being added and no option to remove it. Anyone know any other similar software to plex? I feel Plex have lost me as a customer with this new “discover feature”.

Any suggestions to alternative services would be greatly appreciated
