How to FULLY disable Discover & Watchlist/Streaming Services

Hate this. Good for those who like to see all of this other stuff, but I am here solely for my content. And this update has completely borked the already borked Search function. What a shame. Jellyfin, I hear you calling.

I stopped threatening to leave a long time ago. Who am I kidding? They already have my money.

You are in the wrong thread if you are seeking help for this feature.

Discover should be unpinnable as well. You can guide them depending on device.

It isn’t, it’s a bundle. But I am expecting it to be specific to PMS in future too, as many will ask for it.

You can use “Watchlist” without doing anything with Discover.

I also want to fully disable this - having things I don’t own come up in search even when I’ve chosen to do my best not to have the discovery “feature” is really annoying.

Well yes, but those “Watchlist” items when opened will show all streaming platforms it can be streamed from, and users asked if it’s possible to not show them other than his PMS.

I see that now. I think that’s complete BS. We don’t want ADVERTISEMENTS in our own media unless we have the service linked.

Hey guys guess what. The Discover feature is completely useless if you have a Roku. You then have to manually exit the Plex app then manually load the other platforms app AND THEN SEARCH FOR IT AGAIN.

Because Roku is unable to load other apps from inside other apps.

Useless. Good job changing my stance on this. Hilarious.

Yet the Live TV & DVR feature could use some work and IS A PAID FOR FEATURE. lmao.

As I wrote in the other thread from where you picked up that information
it’s not useless – only Roku doesn’t seem to allow allow apps to open other apps (or deep link any content in other apps).

I seriously wonder how you guys stand all that drama

It is useless on Roku.

Makes things harder, not easier. Therefore useless.

Maybe it is for you or your particular use case (e.g. if all you’ll use it for is to act as a launcher for other apps – which seems to be a rather limited use case). Don’t assume it’s useless for everybody everywhere at all time.

A rather limited use case? So then the feature is there to just search, not actually launch the movie. So the feature is crippled for part of your platform.

Let’s keep the opinions civil please and keep the thread focused on the how to disable this.

@tom80H could this be moved to a feature request so we can have folks vote on it? It would now be my number 1 issue with plex and a real cause to have me move on. Search bringing up stuff not on my server is a major problem for me.

If its primary purpose “isn’t” to take us to the other stuff, then what’s it good for?

It sounded pretty neat at first, but I’m sitting here thinking about it now
it feels about as useful as Plex News. I have other things for that stuff.

I suggest you create a new post with a link here
moving this entire thread will drown anybody else who might want such an option.

This is one aspect.
I’m currently mainly using Discover as an entry point to watch trailers or put items on my watchlist. So far I’ve used the “Where to watch” feature mostly as a reference – not to start watching stuff straight from Plex (not saying that’s not a valid use case as Plex is certainly promoting it).

Then again – you seem to be comparing apples and oranges. From what I’ve understood, it’s a platform specific limitation. If your A/V receiver only deals with 5.1 sound, having a 7.1 audio file isn’t useless – you simply cannot use it to its full extend on that particular receiver
in which case you won’t go to the content provider and blame them for the bad 5.1 output of your setup.

Feel free folks to jump on there, add more information and please vote.

Appreciate the reply
and admittedly, I am getting a bit frustrated when I see something like this, which obviously had a LOT of work put into it, and was likely on the table for over a year in development come out
and it’s falling square into the novelty category for me, personally.

With a very small amount of external subscriptions (largely due to an obnoxiously large Plex library) having a Watchlist of things outside doesn’t make any sense for me.

Meanwhile, I’d pull out and donate teeth to get some manner of version watching functionality added.

And
I can hear Juice screaming from here.

In the iOS app when I select the streaming services I want to use and click done, the settings aren’t saved.

I think what would be nice and to alleviate this critic is that in the services choice you get to choose what is displayed and that if people only want to see plex content then all services are unticked and plex respects that.

Atm because the services ticked doesn’t get saved I see results from things like virgin media that I’m never going to sign up to and it gets annoying seeing them constantly advertised within my server. Well let’s face it, these servers aren’t ours anymore and haven’t been for a long time since plex is an always on service!

As an idea though I really like it, and as this is beta I hope plex hears the concerns and makes adjustments.
