How to FULLY disable Discover & Watchlist/Streaming Services

Results from servers you have access to results should show up first in any search. You cannot remove the “More ways to watch” at the bottom of search

Spam is filtered in my email client.
I would rather Spam didn’t happen either.

All 3 are blend together, Discover, Search, and Watchlist. It isn’t possible to filter certain things out at this point.

However since disable option is already requested, if you haven’t voted there you can cast your vote as that will disassociate 3rd party intergration while giving desired Watchlist and Search which are on PMS level without sending or receiving unneccessary traffic.

Disabling the providers should disable them from search. That is how it has ALWAYS been. This is a really crappy move @elan.

I can filter servers I have access to, yet I am forced to see results from providers I don’t use?

At this point it’s been made pretty clear that that’s a complete waste of time.

It’s Beta guys come’on. I get the disappointment but this is really been thread of repeating same thing over and over again and going nowhere.

Actionable step is already done, requesting for opt-out feature, cast your vote, express why this isn’t feature you need and continue with your life. If that’s not enough then even say goodbye to Plex altogether and use something like Emby or Jellyfin which doesn’t have the said issues pointed out in this thread and who knows works even better.

But that’s just it. A definitive question was asked long ago. That question was turned into a question that was never asked and answered as such.
Finally we have an answer. So much time lost exploring Emby/Jellyfin.

I’m running my server on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, NOT Android, Apple, etc. I cannot get out of the initial prompt on the server itself regardless of what I do! I don’t want this garbage! I play MY OWN CONTENT ONLY! I play content on a Roku Ultra, and now all I have is this garbage on my screen trying to force me to accept something I nether want nor do I need. WTF???

I do NOT have any streaming services. I do NOT want any streaming services!
If I cannot disable this feature in the next 24-48 hours, I will have to find another solution. I paid for a LIFETIME PLEX Pass, and I don’t deserve this, and neither does all of the other people who are complaining. What’s wrong with the PLEX devs? Who OK’d this???

Don’t you do any use cases by having test groups try it out and give feedback?
As is, I have to make PLEX use older agents because The PLEX scanners and agents can’t recognize well known Music, Movies, and TV series. It used to just work. Now I have to do much more manual configuration. Do you have any idea how much work that creates on a 52TB (soon to be 88TB) media server? Every time PLEX goes through and refreshes the metadata, I get bad behavior.

This latest thing is the last straw! I share with several friends and family all over the world. If I’m going to have this forced on me regardless of what I do or settings I configure, I have to find another solution. I’m very disappointed with where this is headed.

PLEASE give us the ability to disable this feature 100% ASAP!

Discovered another problem with the universal Watchlist:
You are not showing the customized movie posters/artwork I have selected for some movies.

Uncheck Pin to menu, click get start, click the X in the upper right. Move on with your life.

unless you actually scroll to the bottom of the search results and click on a title in show more. The were else you can watch it bit doesn’t even show if the discover section isn’t pinned.

If I may:

I completely respect this is a beta. But that makes it all the more bothersome that Plex is placing a splashscreen across every single device I have, the first time I’ve used each of them after this release.

Usually a big (and, to be blunt, annoying and slightly aggressive) splash screen is reserved for non-beta product releases. So it’s weird to hear any discussion of “this is a beta” after such a wide release and marketing campaign across devices.

If this was really a beta, it’s the kind of thing that could be offered to all users via e-mail, forums, and social media, then lots feedback is gained… and afterward, then that splashscreen could go to all users once the beta period is completed. Perhaps slightly less aggressive, but that may just be my preference.

Why is it a beta that has no clear exit button, and no option to disable it for those you don’t want it? Why can you not opt out?

I can guarantee that some of my friends and family will ask me what they’re supposed to do with this full page ad, where both visible options just lead more into accepting “Discovery.”

On top of that, even if you allow it to do its thing and you pick streaming services, it shows you content from other ones you didn’t pick.

I hope you truly are listening, but I also highly doubt it’s genuine. You didn’t seem to listen to any of the issues brought up the last time you changed search (including removing the local media results page that was very useful for server owners).

If this is a beta:

  • Do not force it on people unsuspecting of this (is it a requirement for every user to read every forum post to know about changes ahead of time? What about comments above about grandparents using the app?)
  • Make it optional. Forcing beta code is just not cool. Even Microsoft doesn’t do that. Seriously not cool. Uncool. Anticool.

As for my gripes:

  • Sure, I can unpin “Discover”. Fine, did that.
  • But, on my home screen? At the top is “Recommended” and “Watchlist”. I want that to go away.

“Recommended” is a misnomer. My homescreen is my -home-. I’ve detailed and curated it, I’ve made smart lists that auto populate with specific content. I finally recovered from the abysmal update wherein you decided that “Up Next” and “Continue Watching” need to be merged (and with, what was it, only four or six entries, for an entire family?). My home screen is not “recommended”, it’s desired, it’s the core of my experience with Plex.

“Watchlist” I have no desire to see as a tab at the top of my page. It’s visually distracting, it’s of zero use to me, and it also gives me a (misnamed) tab for the one thing I do use. I have two options, only one I want, and one I will never want.

So, why am I forced to have this there?

A: Because it’s beta. Because, like with the “Up Next” merge, no one really thought about the user experience (or was that epic flaming thread… intended and expected? “By-design”?).

Seriously, you forced beta code on your entire userbase?

Who does that? Like, no one. No one, ever.

If this is a beta (you said so yourself) it should be optional. This is just poor craftsmanship, poor showmanship, and awful project management.

The initial startup screen doesn’t go away. That means what you suggest cannot occur.
Also, I’m NOT in the beta channel. I’m in the public channel.

This thing is “living my life” for me when I want to access my media in PLEX.

An option to “OPT-OUT” should have been included. At the very least, a close button should have been provided to get out of that initial advertisement screen. There was ZERO consideration for the user experience on the part of the devs and project managers (or however high up the chain this disaster goes in the decision making process).

I’m a retired developer, and I would be ashamed to write software with is kind of aggressive, “you have no other option” behavior… It was poor communication in the first place, and a “BETA” version pushed to the “PUBLIC” channel.

No apologies either. When devs make a mistake, they should own it and roll back the software until the problems with it have been addressed (beginning with good communication to users, first and foremost). Then, roll it out via the BETA CHANNEL. Get feedback, and fix issues and send out another BETA version via the BETA CHANNEL. Once that process has come to a conclusion, then roll it out via the PUBLIC channel.

Make sure you give opt-out options, and communicate better the whole way. If I can’t trust what you are doing when you put something on my server, I’m going to drop you like a hot potato and go elsewhere! Remember: I’m a Linux developer and an advanced user. Just think what this is doing to our parents and grandparents, and people who don’t know what they are doing in general! Is anyone who works for PLEX listening???

Does anyone at PLEX understand the software development cycle? Does anyone do case studies?

Beta pushed to the PUBLIC channel. That’s bad behavior for any software company.

Dude, seriously the initial startup screen has two buttons, one says “get started”. click it and it goes away. the next screen has an x to close in its upper right. If someone that gets confused with replacing the batteries in her remote can do it, so can you.

you still get the search feature even if you choose the x to close.
why trying to point fingers on others while not unterstanding what is happening

Hi! “Beta” software is typically tested internally or with a self-selected group of volunteer testers on an “opt in” basis. It is very bad form to foist a “Beta” feature onto your general userbase, particularly with no way for users to even opt out or disable it if they choose to.

Okay then if its beta why can I see it on my WebUI client with public Version 4.78.4 ? My roku is also not running a beta client but a public client and it sees this. The feature itself might be beta but the exposure of it in the clients is not. That is a important distinction.
