Hi there, I’ve seen from past posts that having album reviews show up in Plex is, at best, hit or miss. For myself it doesn’t work at all, and I’m wondering if someone can help me troubleshoot it. In my music library I’m using the scanner “Plex Music” and the agent “Plex Music”, and the box for “Album Reviews and Critic Ratings” is checked. I’ve tried checking and unchecking “Prefer local metadata” (I prefer it on, and none of the “review” fields are populated or locked). It has never worked for me, ever. I’m completely out of ideas. Do reviews currently show up for other people? If so, I do I make it happen?
Do you employ any internet filters for your server (or your whole network)? Pi-hole etc.?
Does any of your albums have a critic review (not a review of a regular user!) up at allmusic.com ?
And if so, are there records for the artist and this album existent on musicbrainz.org ?
And if so, are there “external links” established in musicbrainz.org, which point to the album on allmusic.com?
Hi there, thanks for the reply. I do not use any such filters. And yes, I have lots of mainstream albums with allmusic.com critic reviews. I looked up one album, Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill”, and musicbrainz.org does indeed have an “external link” directly to the allmusic.com page with the review. As a note, the bio for Alanis Morissette (and other artists) shows up just fine.
I think I created the music library in May 2019, and haven’t created any fresh ones since. Hitting Refresh Metadata on the artist actually worked! I’ll go experiment and see what else I can get working, I’ll let you know if I come across any other challenges.
