How to get rid of "Trending" lists?

Server Version#: 1.41.2.9200
Player Version#: 10.24.0.2256 (c53b3e71)

Is there any way to get rid of (or relocate, at least) the two “Trending” lists that are always at the top of the home screen? “Trending on AppleTV” is a totally idiotic thing to have for me, since I own/subscribe to exactly ZERO things Apple. I never requested it, it serves no purpose and it hides the information I want to see (recently added TV Shows and Movies). The other trending list could be marginally useful, but really, it is not and I wish to get rid of it, too. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be anything in the Settings that will allow me to do this.

So, is there some sort of secret procedure for this or is this mandated by Amazon or just a way for Plex to grab some cash by degrading my player experience for Apple?

Do you have the “Discover” source pinned in your sidebar? If so, either unpin it to remove all things Discover (including trending hubs) from your home screen or reorder the sidebar list and move it to the bottom.

Thanks, I’ll take a look and give that a try.

@pshanew , sorry for the delay in my response (life got in the way). Here’s what I see on the main menu of Plex on my FireTV:

I don’t see anything even resembling “Discover” that I could pin or unpin. I also look in the 'More …" menu and there’s no “Discover” there, either.

Sadly, it appears that the annoying “Trending” lists are forced on me by the Plex app for FireTV, perhaps some evil requirement by Amazon, or maybe Amazon just pays the Plex folks for the privilege of annoying lifetime Plex Pass customers with “Trending” ads for things we neither want nor subscribe to.

However, if I’m missing something, please tell me where to find this mythical “Discover” entity that you believe exists somewhere as I cannot find it on any menu I can find in the Plex for FireTV app (including every one of the various settings screens that I found.)

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your original request. Are you referring to this:

If so, go here and disable “Discover Source.”

https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

That will remove all the tabs from the top of the home screen. At least in the web app it does.

No, I’m referring to these:

and they ONLY appear on the Plex that runs on my FireTV. They are annoying and are above anything I’ve added recently, so I must always scroll past them to find my stuff. I have never owned an Apple product (and never will) so I really, REALLY have no interest in what’s trending on AppleTV. And, quite frankly, I couldn’t care less what trailers other people are watching – what does that have to do with my media?

Oh, I should add that in the DESKTOP Plex app that I use to mange my server, I have every single online media source set to DISABLED. So that does not help at all.

They should go away if you unpin the Discover section from the app‘s sidebar.

Edit: or they can be listed below the other hubs by moving the Discover further down in the sidebar.

You mean the sidebar I posted a photo of earlier that clearly shows that there is no “Discover” item on it? How do I unpin something that is not present?

Can you – for the fun of it – pin the Discover source and then unpin it?
Also… do you have any “preferred streaming providers” enabled in Discover?

I would glady try that, if only there was a Discover source on the menu of the Plex app. I have checked on my FireTV, here on the Windows app, and on my LG SmartTV, but none of them have a Discover source in the list of libraries’n’stuff. And yes, I expanded the More item to check everything listed.

Perhaps that is because I have all online media sources disabled?

I tried to go to the server settings and enable the Discover source, but that isn’t even an option for me! This is what I see:

Only the Discover Source and Display “More Ways To Watch” Search Results are like this (having only two different Disable options). The other sources all include an Enable option (though Disable is selected.)

Must I enable something else first, that will enable me to enable either of these two items?

PS: Thank you for trying to help, I’m not trying to sound angry or mean – I’m just a bit frustrated that my Plex software seems to be different than expected despite updating it VERY often.

You can only select “Disabled for Managed Accounts” If you want it enabled for you. That has the effect of enabling it for you. There is no separate option. But if you select disabled for managed users it’s going to add the tables back to the top of your app. Once you do that you’ll have the option of pinning Discover to your sidebar again.

If you want to pin and unpin it as Thom suggested, you’ll have to disable the discover source first. Then you can disable it again.

@pshanew , thanks for the info on the (to me) quite obscure meaning of “Disabled for Managed Accounts”. And, (after unplugging the FireTV from the wall to reboot it) it worked: The “Discover” item was finally visible and when I unpinned it, the unwanted crap (that shouldn’t have been there to begin with) went away. Hopefully, it will stay that way when I once again disable the Discover Source for all.
