How to install and set up Plex on ubuntu. (Crouton/Chromebook)

Hey guys! Bit of a noob here… So I’ve been trying to figure out how to get Plex running on ubuntu but I haven’t had any success. I’ve managed to install it but whenever I run it a browser opens and it says localhost refused to connect. I read somewhere that I should set up a server, and i managed to install ssh a couple of times but I still get refused to connect to port 22. The only solutions that I found was that i should purge it and install ssh client and ssh server which I have, but I still get refused to connect to port 22. My guess it has something to do with the server, but how do I get around it? I’ve tried lots of different solutions I found online but nothing. Does it have anything to do with my router? I’ve been at it the whole day so some help would be helpful. Not sure if it’s useful, but I’m running it on my Acer Chromebook c720 and I did install the 64bit Plex version.

Did you install Ubuntu server or desktop?

If you installed server, and don’t have absolute confidence in your Linux skills with ssh-tunneling, etc, I urge you to stop and reinstall Desktop.

PMS must have the graphical environment for administration and, most importantly, setup / configuration

I believe desktop, i log in to it through sudo startxfce4 followed by my password. I am a bit of a noob, but I can follow steps easily. I use linux mostly to download films and watch them on vlc as I can’t do it on the chromebook. I have managed to install plex by downloading the the package but like I said it won’t start. I really think it’s related to the ssh stuff, as I have read online that it’s needed. But like I said earlier, it keeps on giving me the port 22 issue.

On Ubuntu, the service is self-starting.

I believe the best first step is to walk through the first-run setup steps outlined here because “port 22” (ssh) administration is not how it’s done.
