I’m currently wondering if there is any possible way of forcing Plex to keep the doctor who christmas specials in chronological order with the rest of seasons and also keeping the metadata.
After Episode S01E13 and before S02E01 there exists in chronological order also S00E02. If I follow the naming pattern defined by thetvdb or themoviedb I have to move those epsiodes to the special category. But I rather would like them either being part of season 1 or 2. What I could do is create a non existing episode aka S01E14 or S02E00. That works but then all the metadata is gone. Is there a way that I can create something like an xml file and make plex show those local metadata?
You might try setting the episode ordering to TheTVDb (DVD). In their ordering, “The Christmas Invasion” is s01e14.
However… Plex should automatically offer “The Christmas Invasion” when you finish watching s01e13.
Yes. That option can be changed per show. It’s in the advanced tab when you edit the show.
Okay if this actually works this would be fantastic
As long as the originally available date follows E13, it should work. Here is the play queue in Web that gets generated. There may be a small mixup when episodes air on the same date. Plex just uses midnight (0:00:00) since the aired time isn’t provided in the metadata. You can fix that if you want by editing the aired date and add a time to the later episode that is after midnight (0:00:01).
Thanks guys, I had no idea that Plex actually considers the episode air dates. Since the doctor who specials are always aired months apart from the regular season this shouldn’t be a problem.
