New music album is only showing some tracks in the library

Server Version#: 1.27.1.5916
Player Version#: N/A

I just added the files for a new music album (The Warning - ERROR, released last month) to my library on disk, told PMS to scan the library, and the new album showed up in Plex. However, when I look at the matched album, not all tracks show up in Plex. If I try to fix the match, the correct album shows up in the search, but some tracks are greyed out. I cannot get all of the tracks to show up in Plex.

I’ve verified the album exists in MusicBrainz, with all 14 tracks. One possible complication is that some of the “missing” tracks are present on another album in my library (The Warning - MAYDAY), though not all (specifically track 05 - MONEY is not in my library in any other place). If I delete the other album (MAYDAY) from Plex and disk and try to add the new album (ERROR) again, I get the same result.

How can I get Plex to recognize all 14 tracks from the ERROR album?

In case the screenshot isn’t clear enough, the following tracks are greyed out in the Fix Match screen: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9. 13 is also greyed out but isn’t visible in the screenshot

Is your music library configured to “prefer local metadata?” If so, is the Album Artist embedded tag populated in all 14 tracks?

The scanner and agent are both set to Plex Music, and the “prefer local metadata” option is unchecked.

Hmm… The folder/filename structure looks right, as far as I can tell. Do you have a file tagging app, like MP3Tag or EasyTag? I’m wondering if there are embedded tags that are confusing Plex somehow. With “Prefer local metadata” unchecked, Plex should only look at the tags if it can’t find the metadata in MusicBrainz, but… If you could screenshot the tags in these files, it might give some clues.

Screenshot from MP3Tag attached. The only tags present in the files were those from Amazon Music. This is the only album that has problems (that I’ve noticed).

Well, that looks all right. There are a couple of things there (track and disc numbers with ‘/14’ and ‘/1’) that would bother me if ‘Prefer local metadata’ were enabled, but with that option off, I don’t think it should be a problem.

Have you tried using the MusicBrainz ID to Fix Match? Might be worth a try. To do this, go to MusicBrainz and figure out which of the two releases is yours. Go to that release and get the MBID from the Details tab:

In the Fix Match dialog, click on the Search Options tab and paste the Release MBID into the Album field, and clear out the year and Artist fields. Click ‘Search’ and see if you get better results.

I tried with the MBID from both versions of the album, with the same results as what I have now - the same tracks are greyed out in the search results, and those tracks do not show up in my Plex library.

I’m afraid I’ve got nothing else to offer. Maybe one of the ninjas will have an idea.

To add more information / a complication: I noticed that the page for the album MAYDAY shows the tracks for both MAYDAY as well as the new album ERROR:

It appears that the ratings I had for some of the tracks on MAYDAY are appearing on the wrong match now, as the two rated tracks (CHOKE and ANIMOSITY) are tracks 2 and 3 on the MAYDAY album, but are tracks 3 and 4 on the ERROR album.

This seems due to (or related to) the fact that the album ERROR contains all the tracks released on the album MAYDAY. On disk, however, the files are separate and named per the Plex naming standards.

This is still a problem with PMS version 1.28.0.5999

Now with PMS version 1.28.2.6106, I deleted both albums from my library and disk, added them back (ERROR first), and everything looks OK now. Don’t know what’s different than before, or if there was an update to PMS that solved the issue, but it seems to be fixed now.
