Move an Install to Another System
If you want to run both servers at the same time, skip the Copy Additional Server Settings From the Source System section.
I have no interest in running two servers. One is replacing the other.
Thanks
Question: In the “Edit Your Libraries” step, will I need to rescan each library if the files are on a NAS and reachable from the new computer?
Want to add if you’re thinking of migrating an existing sever to modern Mac host, don’t.
If the file path changes, you need to add the new path.
Even if the path doesn’t change, you’ll want to re-scan the libraries to make sure Plex sees them OK.
Be aware there is a bug in the latest MacOS SMB client. This can cause Plex to not see all the files stored on a NAS. The workarounds are to (a) use NFS instead of SMB, or (b) modify the /etc/nsmb.conf files.
See Plex Files Unavailable but they’re not missing for details (same thread @plexuser-69 linked).
I’ll still have the old computer around for a while so I can hold off for a while…
I just recently upgraded from intel Mac mini to M4 Mac mini. M4 handles transcoding like playing an MP3 file. However the known issue with SMB via Sequoia & Plex Scanner is a headache. Nuked my database before reading the 1 year on-going thread.
15.4 RC just came out this morning but I would hold off for just a little longer. There are workarounds for the time being like keeping the network share finder window open.
