Plex Server not Discovering Media (movie) Files on NAS

I am running the latest version of Plex on my MacMini Intel server for Plex. I have all my media files (only movies so far) on a Synology 224+ NAS. In this case the NAS is for storage alone and the MacMini is the server. Both are connected to the internet through a network switch, but I have tried a direct connect with a network cable to the back of the NAS as well. This is a new setup and I am also new to plex. I started off transferring about 40 movies to the NAS after creating a directory. I created a folder called movies and then the actual movie files are in individual folders with their names. When I first pointed to the movie folder, the 40 movies all showed up on the plex media server as expected. Then I transferred approximately 400 more movies into the movie folder expecting the Plex server to find them and then they would show up in the movie directory in Plex.

But the larger quantity of movies are not “syncing” and showing up in the Plex server. I waited overnight and still nothing. I did change the setting to auto scan and routinely update this morning. I also went to the library settings and forced a scan. Still nothing and it comes back really fast. What should I try next?

Running MacOS Sequoia 15.x.x.

There is a SMB problem in MacOS. Potential workarounds include using NFS instead of SMB or modifying nsmb.conf.

See this thread for details: Plex Files Unavailable but they’re not missing

Or revert to a previous version of OSX?

Plex can be particular in naming, so make sure all your movies are labelled correctly. You still may have the smb issue, but I thought I read that was only on folders with 1,000+ files.

Check a few of the ones that don’t show up and see if that is the issue.

If the naming is not correct, will the search terminate on a single movie or just skip it? The reason I am asking is that you would think 1 in the other 400 would be right, but it is possible that some are screwed up.

Never mind. I decided to rollback my Mac Osx version. Everything is there now. I have a little bit of work to cleanup file names, but not much. Plex is impressive how much and accurate the metadata is.
