Hi
This is not a massive problem, just a bit frustrating.
I am a huge fan of the UK Chef Jamie Oliver, I have all his DVD’s and coming up to Christmas I thought I would put them on Plex so I can watch them when in the kitchen.
So I ripped and ran the episodes through FileBot (great app btw, everyone should support them), and this is where I stumbled across my issue.
Some of his DVDs are flagged as Movies and some as TV, if I place everything in a Movies folder the TV is not recognised, and visa-versa if I put them in a TV folder.
So the simplist of solutions is to put them in a Home Movie folder, but then nothing gets identifed.
So my questions:
Is there a way to mix and match and still let the Plex agent TVDB/TMDB identify everything?
If not, how do I fix the definitions so to stop the scanner from reseting the Names, Posters etc each time it scans the libraries, which I do every night?
Thanks in advance
Adam
That’s an unfortunate part of how Plex works; You can’t create a “Movies & TV” library – HOWEVER – those type videos are fortunately rare.
The solution I’ve found is to put them into an “Other Videos” type library section.
When you create “Other Videos”, the folder names, file names, and posters you put in those folders remain exactly how you named & placed them.
There are other cases like this with the P90 workout videos, MMA fight cards, etc.
It takes a bit effort on your part because you’re manually creating the entries but the benefit is they’ll stay the way you create them.
My personal preference for scenarios like yours is to split the content up in my tv-show and movie libraries – then tag them using the same collection title, e.g. “Cooking with Jamie Oliver”.
This way, when opening the shows, most clients will also show a hub of “Movies in Cooking with Jamie Oliver Collection” (and vice versa).
