I have some Japanese animations and I want to add them to my library as TV shows. But it seems that they plex is unable to recognize them as TV shows. I searched with tvdb.com and found that the animation is in the database. I tried to change the name of the folder to make it exactly the same as the name in the database. What else can I do?
I have another animation series added to the plex TV shows library. but it seems it can only recognize 1 episode of the show but in a wrong season(there supposed to be 60+ episodes and there is only 1 season).
Any help would be appreciated!!
It’d be easier if you told which series it is.
What are you using currently as your files and folder names?
Preparation:
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
- Look up your show on TheTVDB
- Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like
§ : % *
, simply leave them out. - Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases. Add the (year) in parentheses when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
- Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder.
Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext
(’- additional info’ can be left out) - After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

You must have this set to a saved hotkey.
