No it doesn’t. Just similar music in my own library.
Also, @OttoKerner: I just looked, and “Include related content from shared libraries” is checked. That being said, I don’t see related content from other libraries in plex in general. Do the friends have to have done anything in particular to their libraries for it to work this way? (On both shared libraries I am able to do artist radio within their libraries. )
No, just sharing their libraries with you.
And maybe a metadata refresh within the last few months.
But of course, the affected artist must have ‘Similar Artists’, of which some need to be present on your friend’s servers.
Edit the artist and inspect the names under ‘Similar Artists’, on the ‘Tags’ tab.
Maybe your own library also needs a metadata refresh.
I you haven’t refreshed some of your artists in a very long time, they might not even have the necessary metadata attached to them.
This continues to be perplexing. My library my friend’s libaray both have similar artists entries. And after the server update that I just did, in Plexamp, the similar artists (listed as “artists you might like”) from my friend’s server, as well as the 14 albums by the same artist that he has but I don’t are listed at the bottom of the artist page.
I have just realized that I was using the “artist radio” rather than the radio button, which is greyed out for this artist. When I just tried the actual radio button for another artist, it worked, and did use music from the other server.
Does “Artist radio” or the genre or style radios not make use of music on other servers? This seems a little odd since the server has specifically listed the other albums by the same artist that are available…
Thanks for your help troubleshooting this
Additional info… I can directly play any of the same artist’s albums on my friend’s server from the artist page on my server, but when I create an artist radio by hitting the three dots menu and choosing play artist radio, it just uses the single album from that artist that I have on my server.
Artist Radio might be unavailable, if there are not enough ‘Related Artists’.
Artist Radio is mainly playing tracks from related artists (and related artists of related artists, and sometimes related artists of those
), not from the original “seed” artist.
Hmmm…then what is the difference between the radio button on the artist page, and the “play artist radio” that shows up in the press and hold menu on an artist, or in the 3 dots menu on the artist page? The latter seems to just play stuff on my server, where the former will play music from my server and others.
Probably a bug.
What is the behavior in other plex apps?
Web app: There is no radio button for this artist (Choral group Stile Antico) at all. No option for radio in other menus
iOS: Stile Antico Radio available in the 3 dots menu, but it only creates a playlist of about 4 tracks
For other artists, where the actual radio button is available on the main artist page, behavior is as expected.
Then I guess the bug is to show the radio button on this artist in Plexamp at all.
If it is able to use music on other shared servers for radio, though, it would be nice to have a way to shuffle all available music by a particular artist or in a particular genre no matter which server it is actually on… Seems like that would be a simpler thing to do than having the artist radio include music from multiple sources. When I do the “shuffle” for this artist in the iOS plex app, it just shuffles the music on my server, even though the 14 CDs that my friend has are listed at the bottom of the artist page
Are there plans to bring the “Browser” mode like iTunes and iOS music used to have? Genre>Artist>Album>Song
This is my favorite mode and both Plex app, Plexamp, and iTunes music don’t have it (anymore) and it’s a terrible experience trying to sort through music. I either have to stick with my Recents or Search, and sometimes I can’t remember the name of that Slam Death Metal band that I bought 4 years ago and need to search through my Metal Artists.
Plex app has this… it’s in filters. i just tried with webbrowser and android, works fine… infact you can even save the filter as a smart playlist.
Plexamp doesn’t need this, IMO, if you want a genre, then just play genre radio… if you know the band genre you want to hear, then go to the band scroll down, and find genre/style radio.

iOS/Android DOES need it as well. I did go to genre radio…it shuffles, which is the complete opposite of what I want to do. And now it looks like Genre Radio crashed and won’t load at all even after a restart of my phone…awesome.
Really IDK why you’re defending them not easily implementing an feature that many people want (just google and you’ll see people complaining about it for PLEX and iOS Music).
Is there a way to play ALL recently added albums?
I want it to go in order i added them, so i can listen to recently added music immediately.
Or even, play ALL Music library, and when i sort it by recently added, it should act the same.
Yes, you can do this with smart playlists. I have created one called “New music” that contains everything added to the music library for the past 30 days.

A couple of dumb questions since I just starting using Plexamp on an iPhone
Is there a way to download an artist or group of artists at once? Seems like I have to click the dots next to each individual album? Can an artist be synced so new albums are downloaded automatically?
I have the normal plex app on my phone which already has a lot of music synced. Can’t the two share that info? Or do I need to remove the media from my phone in the Plex app and re-download in the Plexamp app?
In all artists there’s no way to view only synced/downloaded media, like there is in the regular Plex app. That would be very nice to have.
Does this handle audiobooks better than the regular Plex app? or just as awful?
i’m not defending them mang, I’m letting you know of other ways to receive a similar result, and it was just my opinion thus the IMO. If you think this type of filtering should be integrated then request it… simple as that. People popped off at no full library browsing and then they added it. Bingo bango. Plexamp is giving me so much that I remember being in WinAmp, maybe it’s just a nostalgia thing that I’m loving it
- if you go to artist, click the three dots on the artist then
Download Artist Shuffle
- there is no syncing like the Normal Plex app. The only thing i can think of is to create a playlist/smart playlist, and as you add to it download it occasionally (when connected to wifi).
- Since the apps are separate, from my understanding they don’t. There is a little bit more finesse when it comes to how Plexamp plays and downloads music. Specifically bitrates and conversions. I have VERY little android development understanding, but i’m thinking the access, write, and overwrite capabilities between apps are compartmentalized.
From my experience, they are only located in the downloads
tab.
the only audiobooks i listen to are language learning… and both apps work fine for my use case, but i know people have issues with audiobooks in general so i can’t speak it that.

All my songs are in the Download tab at the bottom.
So is it just me or can you ONLY download the ENTIRE ALBUM? I don’t get the option to download individual songs.
Also, I find it annoying that when viewing your Downloads, it will automatically start playing the album when you click on it, instead of showing you the album’s songs and letting you choose which to play.
Create a playlist for single tracks you want downloaded and add them to that.
