[How To] Plexamp 4.6.1

Thanks sekthree. I tried some of your suggestions over the weekend and it helped. I didn’t realize what download artist shuffle did. The problem was when I downloaded albums, the download tab shows them by album which is awful. When you download shuffle you can see artists, but not choose and album or song. Not perfect but it beats downloading each album individually.

I guess the solution is just to download artists as much as possible, set the app to play locally all the time and then just select music from the main menu of artists? It would be nice if they just added a small icon to show which music had been downloaded already.

As far as audiobooks - the main Plex app could never remember where you left off, especially if you switched to music and then back. That’s a killer for me. I’ll give this app a try when I’m in between chapters. The other issue is the way the library organizes them. They really need to set up a default for audiobooks that works like TV Series. Author = Show, Book Series = Season, Book = Episode (and then one layer further down for tracks). That sounds easy to me

@andrewskaterrr - try what I did and download artist shuffle. Agree it stinks you can’t go in and select an album, but that’s the easiest way to download lots of things quickly.

yeah, I’m not sure how in depth the Plex team will be adding things… I think this is supposed to be a lite weight music app, but i don’t know how much processing goes into doing a lot of these things.
If your wanting to ONLY play local music… i think it would be best to just goto the download tab. From what i can see… the main home page doesn’t show anything when off wifi or cell.

For audiobooks… do you have STORE TRACK PROGRESS on your audiobook library? I just tried your scenario and it worked for me… listening to japanese lesson 7… I stopped at 22:00 last time i listened… have since been listening to music… i just changed to that library, then goto history, and started the last item played… started right where i left off.

downloading individual tracks has been brought up. your second concern… i think the 1-tap play setting only works when something is playing… otherwise if nothing is playing… 1-tap will play.

yeah makes sense, it should be “good enough” and it’s still easier to use than other options I’ve tried, hopefully they’ll add a few small things here and there. Thanks again

Ya I have 1 tap on but it’s not related to that. I mean it plays the album instead of showing you the songs in the album. Basically once it starts playing the first song, you have to swipe up to see all the other Album tracks that are in queue, then select the one you want to hear. In the meantime the first track is still playing. It’s a minor issue but still annoying.

turn off 1-tap play…
i just tried, and it showed me the album without playing it…

Tried it Saturday and just now with 1 tap off, still auto plays the album when clicking within Downlods. I’m on iOS, not sure what you’re using.

confirming this, one tap is off and it plays anything you tap (in my case artist shuffle) on iOS

Thanks for testing that out.

When I played audiobooks in the Plex app ONE YEAR AGO  I had store track progress on, but it didn’t work at all. Even if I didn’t play music or close the app. So I haven’t tried it since.

From what I can tell it does work now in Plexamp, so I’m cautiously optimistic. There are a few things that could be added to make it better at audiobooks but this is 90% if it works reliably.

Good luck with your Japanese lessons. I miss Tokyo like crazy with all these travel restrictions.

@andrewskaterrr @dweebfactor5
i completely miss understood… i wasn’t going to downloads… i was going to home… my bad… on windows and android version 3.0.3… you are correct downloads immediately plays. regardless of 1-tap play on or off.

Thanks dweebfactor5… I’m hoping one day i’ll get their, and before the fall of humanity. My friend from work lived their for 2 years and was teaching me on lunch… needless to say lessons have stopped. it was GREAT to get his corrections for formal vs casual nihongo… “nobody says that”, LOL.

Thank you for this post! Didn’t know PlexAmp had so many of these features until reading this post.

You sir, are a legend.
I feel the need to share this in all those reddit posts complaining that Plex Amp doesn’t do all these things.

Where can we file bug reports for Plexamp?

I’d suggest searching the plexamp topic thread for any similar issues you’re encountering for a possible solution or discussion, or to keep posts at a minimum (could get lost in the shuffle). If the bug has NOT been reported then you can post a new thread.

I have Degrees of separation set to Unlimited but I still can not get it to play my entire library? The other day the wife and I where working outside and I selected “Library Radio” and we heard a few of the songs over again and then at some point hours later it decided to have “Tony Dize” greatest hits celebration or something and played his songs over and over and then died.

Am I missing something to get it to play my entire library in a shuffle mode?

I tried it using the regular Plex App and it worked fine and shuffled the entire library. Also my Sonos system which points to the same library shuffles all the tracks with no issues.

my apologies… i don’t get on everyday.
you need to either upgrade to the newest music library or do a rescan of it. as noted in the how to, degrees of separation relies on related artists. If you are NOT seeing a whole lot of similar artists in the tag section of the edit menu for an artist, it’s not going to give you variety.

I’m loving Plexamp… I just discovered it yesterday and it’s already my favorite way to listen to my music on my iPhone. Was having some sync problems with Plex app on iOS (which I actually fixed by deleting/reinstalling) and got frustrated so started searching in the App Store. Boom… Plexamp!

One of my favorite features that I wish was on all of the players is the display of the audio codec on the Now Playing / Playing Music screen. I have alot of duplicates in my library and sometimes it just puts my FLAC and MP3 songs together in the same album. Seeing which one is which would really help me keep my libraries organized better. Anyway, keep up the great work!
