How to prevent Plex from auto-refreshing all metadata on Synology NAS

Server Version#: Version 4.12.3
Player Version#: N/A

This happens very infrequently but, on occasion, Plex will automatically and without warning, refresh my entire library, blowing away custom metadata on a huge scale. I think it has happened 3 times now and this last time I just can’t bring myself to re-do it without figuring this out.

My libraries live on a Synology NAS running DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4

When this happens I am not able to find any indication of a problem or a reason for the refresh. I can’t find any setting that seems related. I do have “Scan my library automatically” and “Run a partial scan when changes are detected” enabled, but neither should involve a metadata refresh.

Has anyone experienced this? I am assuming something is happening on the NAS side that is triggering this but I can’t for the life of me find what it could be.

I am having the same issue. I just completed adding tags to my moves last weekend to put them in collections. An automatic megadata scan took place which removed many of the Tags I had just put in, resulting in removing many of the movies from their appropriate collection. Now I have to do it all again.

Settings - Server - Library - Show advanced.

  1. Turn off “Periodic”
  2. Turn on “Partial” (it only scans what it knows changed)
  3. Detect changes automatically (meaning when you copy from computer -> NAS)
