How to Record Future Series Not Yet in the Guide

Hi - thanks in advance for your help.

I recently cut the cord and wanted to get all my recordings scheduled for the TV Shows I watch.

A couple of these, Law and Order: SVU & How to Get Away with Murder are not currently in the program guide because their next episode doesn’t air for a few weeks. Is there any other way to set up a recording for these shows even though they are not currently in the guide?

Not at this time. You can only schedule recordings for shows that exist in the program guide.

Thanks. I am guessing this is a future feature that will be added?

It would be difficult to do as the DVR needs to have the exact xml data for a series that it does not complete knowledge of. You could enter a show title but perhaps record too many series, or miss the series, if the xml data does not match. AFAIK, this is also a limitation on traditional cable boxes.

What would be conceivable would maybe be something like a reminder, where you enter a wildcard search for something (ex: South Park) and Plex notifies you anytime it finds xml data containing that series name and new episodes then asks if you want to record.

Are there any options for the Program Guide that will extend the duration of time it downloads content for? I’m in this same situation and realize that at least having an entry in the guide would be all that’s necessary for those shows that I know I want to record. But, it seems that the guide only goes out a couple of weeks.

@ember1205 I wouldn’t count on it. I still have DirecTV which only provides guide data for 14 days, when I had Spectrum (Time Warner) their DVR only provided guide data for 14 days, TVGuide.com only provides 14 days, one of my local TV stations sends me to titantv.com for TV listings which also only has 14 days. I am unaware of any program guide that provides more than 14 days.
