How to remove DVR recordings?

Hi,

This feels like a very simple thing, so I’m probably just missing something, but can anyone tell me how to remove recordings made by the DVR?

I have deleted the files directly and also through the Plex library, but the recordings still show in the Recordings page. They take up a lot of screen space with entries that are not clickable and I have to scroll all the way down to see the latest recordings.

I’ve looked on the Web interface and on the Android app, but I don’t see anyway to delete recordings from the Recordings page or to force some sort of refresh/rescan. I’ve also done a “Scan Library Files” on the library that holds the DVR recordings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have been wondering the same thing, and haven’t been able to find anything that has worked. Surely someone knows how to do this.

I’ve just been going into the TV folder on my server, delete the media file and then rescan the TV library. that seemed to have cleared mine out.

Recordings stay on the recording screen. They will roll off in 3 weeks I believe, not at a computer at the moment to check.

there’s an option to delete a recording on the mobile app I found but that’s on iOS, I dunno what the Android version looks like, but I’ll run thru my steps here quick:

from homescreen, tap Shows (bottom of screen) > All Shows > [your show or series to delete from] > Episode you want deleted > (…) aka ellipse button next to download button > tap Delete, then Delete again to confirm. Tap Shows at the bottom, then drag down so the screen refreshes (like you do for mail, etc in other apps).

Hope this helps

Please share a screenshot of the page where these recordings are taking up space.

I think there are 2 things being confused here. One is the library, which contains the recorded shows, and the other is the list of recordings. (On the web interface, on the left side menu, there should be a “Recordings” item under the “LIVE TV & DVR” category.) I can delete them from my library without a problem. Doing that doesn’t remove it from the Recordings screen though. I still see the deleted recordings in Calendar View and Agenda View.

I can confirm johnm_ColaSC’s statement about them rolling off in 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, recordings (deleted or not) are removed from the Recordings screen. While not ideal, I guess this is by design.

Same problem here. It would seem much more logical to have a “Delete” option for the program to be deleted or removed once it is watched, exactly the same as a cable provider’s DVR.

Anyone in engineering reading these posts??

You can do that already.

But careful:
This option is effective globally. i.e. it is not restricted to just your DVR library.

Thanks for the reply, Otto. My point still remains that this isn’t a straight-forward way to have the option of deleting a show that’s been watched. It should be much easier, preferably an option right from the TV once the show is no longer wanted.

Thanks again.

That option is also already existing.

You misunderstand, Otto: it’s not about allowing the deletion of “anything”, it’s about allowing the deletion of ONLY DVR RECORDINGS. So enabling deletion globally is something most of us with a sizable library would shy away from. However, we still want to be able to delete DVR recordings we no longer want around - regardless of age, etc.

Perhaps the feature here is to add a per-library option to permit deletion of items within that library, instead of or in addition to the global option?

This is an absolutely brutal, terrible concept when mixing a DVR with a static collection.

Don’t know if it helps, but here is how I setup my Library on PMS running on an Ubuntu Server.

I have a Library for Movies, Music, TV Shows, etc… all files are owned by user account “paul” with 644 permissions in Linux. (plex can see them, but can’t delete)

I created a separate DVR Library owned by “plex” so plex can have full write access and delete access.

Plex cannot delete anything from the other libraries because they don’t have the proper permission. Easy workaround to prevent accidental deletions of files from other libraries since it’s set globablly.

I have the same issue as you - but most of the replies to your post seem to discuss the option of deleting recordings.

I have also (manually) deleted my recording through the the Plex app but it remains in the DVR list which is the topic. Plex throws an error when I try to manually remove the listing.

Should be possible to manually force remove the listing and not wait for 3 weeks which one answer seems to imply.

Your screenshot shows it’s in the recording schedule history. That doesn’t get removed when you delete a recording. Those are automatically purged two weeks from the date of recording.

Yes - but that’s what I flagged as a “problem”. Not sure there is any added value to show what I have recorded in the past after I have purposefully deleted the media file.

Back to my original comment:

To clarify, what tofuji is trying to do is: delete the SCHEDULED recording from the schedule List - after the recording is finished. Right?
I, too, want to have Plex automatically delete them from the Looooong list of scheduled recordings (such as TV series) that need to stay there, once the recording of the “one-off” is finished. That way the looong Priority List of scheduled recordings isn’t cluttered with a bunch of recordings that are already done.

After reading all of these replies, the most straight forward way I’ve found to delete recordings is to go into the folder I’ve designated where they’re saved and manually delete them. I stick with my original comment that: there should be an easy, uncomplicated way to delete these recordings. I would have it right on the same screen where I can play it. Simply add a delete button. This is how every other DVR works, whether from TiVo or a cable provider.

This button already exists.
