How to setup Sweet Fades

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#: 4.4.0
Hi Guys, I have added several folders for my music. After analyzing for a while, I started playing on my Mac App and iOS devices and want to us the Sweet Fades. Concerts/mixes that are cut in separate songs are not gap-les and Fades are not working at all.

  • So I analyzed the whole library again
  • I tried to play songs and shuffle
  • Tried a Library Radio station
  • Cache is enabled
  • Pre-Amp + Limiters are set
  • Tried multiple outputs (AirPods, car, computer speakers, Sonos)
  • Sonic Analysis is Enabled
  • Save Track Progress is enabled (handy for dj mixes)
  • Plex is on Synology

Maybe I have setup something wrong here? I really love to hear if anybody has some tips how Sweet Fades can start working.

Gr, Stefan

Please quantify “a while”. Loudness analysis takes a very long time. If you enable it for an existin glibrary, it is only run during the server maintenance. A big library can take several days to analyze.
Same goes for sonic analysis, with the difference that sonic analysis takes much, much longer than loudness determination.

Save Track Progress is not recommended for music libraries.

Sweet fades et al might not work if you are “casting” to a different device. So try to make it work first by using the bult-in speaker of the device where Plexamp is running on.

Thanks for your quick reply.

  • I have analyzed the library for 24 hours and Plex was finished doing this.
  • I have with and without Save Track Progress
  • I tried on all devices because i thought it does not work on all. And yes it does not work on any right now

Triggering “Analyze” in the properties of your library is not immediately starting loudness determination, nor sonic analysis.
There is no message when loudness analysis is finished.
Take a look into the Plex media info of several of your tracks. Do they all have a value for Loudness in them? If not, the analysis is not finished.

Save track progress is a completely separate matter.

Thanks for your reply. How can I check if Plex is still doing anything? In the backend you see that a Plex is doing nothing at all.
I tried a few tracks but there is no info about loudness. Maybe I checked the wrong way?
My Plex/Synology server shuts down every night at 0.00 hrs and boots up again at 7.30. I presume that Plex will continue checking the loudness?

Loudness and sonic analysis will continue, but only during the server maintenance period.

Verify that you did not set the maintenance period during this time.

Make sure that the device doesn’t shut down until at least 30 minutes after the scheduled end of the maintenance period.

Thanks for the update Otto, I just switched to English for the Server, so this will be a bit easier to find all the settings
I have changed my Scheduled Tasks to start: 8.00 and stop 23.00

I unchecked Update all libraries and the rest is checked, this should be corrrect right?

That doesn’t make much sense. The idea is to set it to a time period where the server is not used (much).
Because some of these tasks can slow down regular operation or even prevent it.

Yeah i know… the server is a ds3617xs for just me… so there is plenty of power to do the jobs. Also I am a lot of working outside, so the server is just doing nothing.
When I see I have some server issues, I know where to seek for the solution

I’d say concentrate on getting the loudness analysis done first.
So set “Analyze audio tracks for sonic features” to “never” for now and leave only “Analyze audio tracks for loudness” activated.
(Settings - Server - Library)

you aren’t listening to an album or something with consecutive tracks, correct? because fades are automatically disabled listening within an album

Good tip! Just changed my settings. I can see it was analyzing both.

I was listening to all random tracks from the library.

So the server has been doing it’s maintanance for 24 hrs now and finished the Loudness and only has to do the sonic analyses. Tried to use random playback, library radio or other lists, but still no sweet fades.

There is some sort of fade, but this is like 1 or 2 sec depending of the song

What am I doingt wrong here?

Are two successive songs overlapping or are they not?
“Sweet Fades” is a misnomer.
Nothing is fading. It is just overlapping of two songs, the duration of which is depending on the loudness progression of each individual song pairing.
Which means if you have a song with a slow fadeout which is followed by a song with a very soft start, they will overlap for quite a long time.
Whereas if both songs end and start rather abruptly, they will not overlap at all.

Thanks Otto, I just heard a few fades working!!! It really depends on the tracks indeed… very cool!
