This usually happens automatically, right? Whenever I have multiple flies for an item, differing in resolution or some other metric, a badge is added to the top corner telling me how many ‘collisions’ I have for that particular file.
Well, the last thing I added today was the 2nd version of a file in my library. Both files were automatically detected correctly, but instead of stacking, they’re both listed side-by-side while browsing.
Is there something I can do to correct for this?
BTW, the files are titled like so:
–movie title-- [2019].mkv
–movie title-- [2019].2160.mkv
Other file sets with a similar naming scheme stack as expected.
select them both (click on circle on top left of their posters), then in the options menu ... on the upper right choose Merge. and they will be combined into one item with the blue number indicating how many version of it you have.
not related to issue but don’t put years in brackets. use parenthesis. things in brackets are completely ignored.
Awesome! I didn’t know that(or I may of forgotten). Just tried it on 2 entirely different movies and they merged.
One note though. You can’t merge from two different libraries… …but it does make sense why.
I have noticed the parenthesis over brackets thing previously in the documentation, but never bothered to change since I’ve literally never had a problem with identification. Both relevant responses seem to adamantly imply that text inside of brackets is ignored by Plex during processing. But, honestly, when I place similar titles with different years, they’re identified correctly every single time (as far as I’ve ever noticed).
But that doesn’t mean I won’t make the change. I’ll write up a quick script later tonight to rename everything.
By having two files with the same name, Plex will combine them into one movie on the app and will show 2 or 3 or as many of the same file as you have on the top left of the poster (see below)
Plex will also recognize the difference in the meta data/ media info and will show the the difference version in the “Play Version” drop down menu, see below:
With that, if somehow your files separate out into two or more movies of the same movie but you want them to be combined, you can simply choose there Auto Match and make sure that all the files match under the same agent, this will combine them automatically (see below)
It’s not that it won’t work with brackets. It is just that if you have two movies, like a remake with the same name, the agents may need the year to pick the right one. Though it is a 50/50 chance, so it may get them right. Agents intentionally do not pay any attention to things in brackets. If everything you have so far works then ok, but if you have a script or something like Sonarr or Filebot renaming I would change their settings to use parenthesis in the future with new files.
